To be fair, in popular jargon, "classic" when referring to stories is far different than "classical" (and music has other definitions). "a classic" is used in ways that can mean a memorable antique or an important literary milestone. In the world of modern medieval fantasy, there are very few literary milestones, and some might say only Tolkein's works are such. So... a memorable antique of a modern medieval fantasy written post 1950-something, where pseudo immortality is part of a religion, and the immortals lose joy etc in the bargain.
Can we have another hint? Perhaps the language the book is written in?
