It seems that while octopodes lack colour-sensitive photoreceptor differentiation, they manage to distinguish colours using a purely 'software' method (analysing the difference in diffraction/blurring between different wavelengths). (One would expect them to have
some way of distinguishing colours to enable their top-tier chameleonic abilities.)
