Unless the GM has decided to reintroduce a breath of sanity and either removes the parasites from canon ... or says the Jedi got it wrong and they're just attracted to Force Sensitivity, not the cause of it.

Actually, that could be a good thing for the scientist to study: he's got the hypothesis that the Jedi got it wrong, and is working on obtaining proof.
