Re: 'Imperial Culture' (non-canonista)
Apollo
An Apollo is a name for beverages that are sold in a multisectioned thermos. It has an adjustable temperature for each section or "stage" and a hole at the top of each stage which can be opened to various widths to adjust the rate of mixture, creating a sort of cocktail or punch. Variations include a small canister along the side to introduce carbonation.
Traditionally customers are allowed to keep the containers which is why they carry a higher price then some drinks. Another tradition is that customers who bring their own containers are given discounts.
The name comes from a series of experiments in space flight in Pre-confederation Terra, which led to the first recorded landing on Luna. The reaction drives at this time were required to use a series of controlled explosions carried in disposable propulsion systems stacked one on top of another in a manner which has a vague similarity to an Apollo thermos.
