Without knowing exactly what card the other player used, I can't give a firm answer to the timing, but it sounds to me as though you rolled to Run Away, failed the roll, and then used a card that relied on a failed rule. At that point, it's too late for anyone else to reverse the failure into a success. They would have needed to do that before you used your card.
