Depends on the campaign, and the difference between your armed and unarmed skills. For a character with Karate-14 and Spear-18, spending a Perk to functionally get a +2 to Parry for unarmed vs unarmed (or unarmed vs thrusting weapon) fights is probably worth it in a campaign with lots of tavern/street fights where the character is unlikely to have his sword, but probably isn't worth it for a game where most of the fights take place on a battlefield of some sort. Using
Harsh Realism for Unarmed Fighters (MA124) makes it more worthwhile (as Karate no longer has an effective bonus against weapons), while frequently having fights where the Retreat bonus is likely to come into play makes it less worthwhile.
