Thanks, another question real quick, or more of, a way to explain it to them because they still complain about it:

We had an incident where a player was a bard, and he was level 9. He couldn't defeat the monstrosity that we had created to stop him from winning through the use of +5's, +10's and a pure rain of potions. So his plan, was to use his ability and pull someone into combat to beat the monster and not gain the levels.

Now, I know that this is not how it works, and we found someone asking this same question, however they still don't understand why.

Is there anything you can tell me so I can explain this to them a bit better?

Actually, they blame the rules/SJgames saying "They should have been more specific about how the bard ability and leveling works".
