You'll have at least one ram plate in virtually every arena, it's true. I don't know whether that says something about the power of the ram plate or the psychology of particular players, though. Before 5e, I never say them dominate, even with doubled/halved damage.

Actually, in my humble experience, the best ways to defeat a Ram-car is to have a lethal dropped weapons package ... and ensure the Ram-car has to approach you thru where you would drop those weapons.
The second best way to be a Ram-car and hit him on the side/ rear before he hits you.
The other good way is to shoot out his tire at close range and watch him lose control and slam into a wall.
