Default Re: classic arena rules

Parody is saying that rather than treating each 1/4" square on the maps in the books as 1" when drawing the arena on the map sheet, he used a different scale.

Each arena usually has its own special features which might have special rules. They all use the core rules from Classic Car Wars and/or the Car Wars Compendium though.

If I understand your question, you're looking for rules/directions on how to do an arena campaign, correct?

The back pages of L'Outrance is probably your best reference material. It was one of the later supplements released on arena dueling and should be fairly accurate for what you need. Given the tendency of Car Wars to have a fairly high character fatality rate in the arena, I'm going to recommend that you use the Corporate Car Wars rules from there.

To answer your question about Arenas vs. the Arena Book (and L'Outrance and arenas in ADQ): What SJG printed in these products was arenas at 1/4 normal scale. You had to get some map sheets and draw them at full size to play. (L'Outrance and the Arena Book had a few at ready-to-play size). The Arenas set gathered up these small maps from a variety of sources and printed them up at ready-to-play size (and fixed a few things as well).

Currently, Arenas, Arenas 2, and Classic Car Wars are the only products in print for the line (and thus the only source of ready-to-play maps currently).

You can still get electronic copies of most of the other products. There are several arenas in the Expansion Sets too.

Classic Car Wars is a reprint of a subset of the Car Wars Compendium. If you have the Compendium, you've got the rules from it. Classic also has an active errata list that is being kept up-to-date (see the sticky at the top of the forum). Some of the errata items there also would apply to the Compendium.
