What if I overwhelm the ship's laser with targets, literally firing dozens of missiles at it, knowing full well the many of them will be destroyed.

You could build defenses so dense they can't be easily penetrated in a few key locations, but the cost of defending against the max ship concentrations at all spots is hugely prohibitive. I don't need to defend the entire coastline, just the most suitable landing sites, as many spots along the coast won't make for a good beachhead. It's part of the reason the countries capable of conducting large scale amphibious operations have forces dedicated to conducting amphibious recon and hydographic surveys.
