Conflicting cosmologies is one thing I think is really cool. The Divine realm is trying the change the cosmology of the world into a battle between Heaven and Hell and the Norse gods are trying to keep it as the Nine worlds. Or maybe Heaven and Hell and the Nine worlds are planes that all exist but their connection to the mortal realm is based on believers and the faithful. As the old faiths decline the Nine Worlds become less influential and as the monotheistic faith increases Heaven and Hell have more connection to the mortal realm. Competing cosmologies have a lot of possibilities to the game world. Even the way magic works might change as the cosmology changes.
