That was a weakness of mine. I used to design for fun, but not for optimization. Sure, I'd tweak it as tight as possible, but I had my concept first that I wouldn't throw out the window. The upside was that my opponents weren't all that great at optimizing (sometimes they had larger plants than they really needed), and I got a kick out of the way they had to look out for me because they never really knew what the heck I was going to have this time. (We didn't reveal anything until it went "blooey".)
