The dig at java is mainly programming snobbery: C++ is so much cooler. And I probably resent Oracle a little for taking the very cool Sun and tearing it apart. But, really, it has worked well for me and the cross-platform simplicity is quite nice.

I was a c++ guru for years, but it's less productive than Java IMO. Java 8 has Closures and other functional constructs, etc. Javafx rocks. So I'm probably a Java snob now.
