Actually, you can. You can give the Wizard Hireling any Item a Wizard can use. So, if you happen to have two Items that are Armor, and a Wizard can use at least one of them (i.e., it says "usable by Wizard only," or doesn't have any other Class/Race requirement, and doesn't say "not uasable by Wizard"), you can give one to the Wizard Hireling and use the other yourself.

So, some real game examples of Items you can give the Wizard Hireling: Staff of Napalm (Wizard only), Pointy Hat of Power (Wizard only), Pantyhose of Giant Strength (Warrior can't use), Slimy Armor (anyone can use).
And some Items you can't give to the Wizard Hireling: Mithril Armor (not usable by a Wizard), Short Wide Armor (Dwarf only), Shield of Ubiquity (Warrior only).

This applies to the Hirelings which say they can carry and use an Item for a specific Class or Race. There are other types of Hirelings, so we'll have to deal with questions on them in a separate thread as they come.
