With some board & computer games , it helps people with certain problems focus & not get overwhelmed by sensory input .

Swordboy & his younger Son are like me both on the Autism Spectrum . Both 'suffer' if a a regularly spaced map is not used in table top games - Car Wars , OGRE , various Labyrinth games etc .

Having played WarHammer 40K & BattleFleet Gothic , I'm fine with non regular spaced playing fields - despite my mild Aspergers . Computer games like Master of Orion 2 among others , I always use grid option to stop feeling overwhelmed by the wide open maps during Space Ship Combat .

Each to their own I guess ?
