IIRC:
Junger was on the Western Front for four years as a junior officer (i.e., cannon fodder Number 1.) He loved it.
His brother was killed in the war. He loved it.
Junger was wounded seventeen times. [Might include exit wounds.] He still loved it.
Short version -- the guy was a
nut. Wrote about "the ecstasy of battle." Lived to be 102 -- last surviving holder of the Ordre Pour le Merite, i.e., Blue Max.
