:) Don't panic! It was a House Rule we introduced in order to give another defence option which wasn't just Yet Another DX Adjustment modifier and was totally (IMHO) in line with the idea introduced in Two Weapons. Having a completely different kind of 'defence' was and is pretty interesting...

I think we were going for speed and tactics rather than 'accuracy'. We were happy with a different kind of defence option - it makes combat more interesting without slowing it down at all, and we felt it was a natural outgrowth of existing rules. But each to their own! :)
