So, if my damage is 5d+5, then my average damage is going to be (5*3.5)+5 - or 22.5.
If my damage is 3d-2, then my average is going to be (3*3.5)-2, or 8.5.

Not really, what determines that 8.5 to not be 2d6+1 or 2d+2 (average 7, average 8)?
