Enlightenment:
Craftsman do charge based on time* and materials*. Modern mass produced goods should not be compared to handmade goods for pricing.
*Longer self bows take more work to craft as do stronger composite bows, longer strings need to be thicker and longer, more wood goes into a longer bow, different material in a composite for different strengths, etc.

What I mean is, I picture an artisan looking at his table with 2 different strings and 2 different woods/bows and he simply picks the combination for stronger or lighter pull and assemble them with mostly the same work.
