Craftsman do charge based on time* and materials*. Modern mass produced goods should not be compared to handmade goods for pricing.
*Longer self bows take more work to craft as do stronger composite bows, longer strings need to be thicker and longer, more wood goes into a longer bow, different material in a composite for different strengths, etc.
