Maize is advantageous within limits. As Second Century Rome had not gone through the Arab Agricultural Revolution, they'd realize impressive benefits. Africa would realize bigger ones in the long run. And don't forget, I gave Rome the silk industry in this scenario. That vastly benefits trade.
