Hirelings have no traits other than the ones listed on their cards. A Wizard Hireling is a Wizard with no race (not even human). The text on the card says that it can use any Item that is legal for a Wizard to use, so that would include any items that do not say "Not Usable by Wizard" or "Usable Only By X" where X is not "Wizard."
