Default Re: DF Adventure: Ruins of the Demon King

The rest of this level is barracks, kitchens, latrines, storage areas ect. This is basically hack and slash at this point. There are staiways leading upstairs which house more goblinoids and have barracks, kitchens, storage ect. The top level above this level is largely unused except for storage.

There is a staiway down to the lower level from the entrance level where they take the sacrifices to try to bring forth Urzgruul.

Lower Level: The large stairway leading down to the lower level is made of highly polished adamant. The stairway leads to a landing room with a door that is guarded by 2 man-sized trolls armed with morning stars and wearing chain mail. The door is locked but only -3 to pick. One of the trolls has the keys and will be found with a successful search roll. This will open the door on the landing.

Opening the door leads to a large arched hallway 25 feet wide and tall. The hallway leads both left and right. If the PCs go left they will find rooms for housing the faithful, storage areas and more guard barracks. To the right the hallway turns and then to the right again there are two 20 foot tall and 10 foot wide doors. These doors are covered completely with demonic faces, strange runes and symbols and bas-reliefs. They are made from the same meteoric and orichalcum alloy. These doors are unlocked.

1. The great temple of Urzgruul: As the PCs enter the room it is dark. If the room is lit it will reveal two demonic statues on either side of the entrance. As the party goes further into the room they will see huge pillars on either side of the room. At the end of the room is a huge statue of Urzgruul and a sacrificial altar. The altar is stained with dried blood. In this room is Sarth an evil orc cleric adept (450points), Velga a troll evil cleric (300points), and Lugis an ogre evil cleric (300 points). They will attack immediately. The three will fight fanatically to the death.

Behind the temple is a large curtain of blood red. Behind this is a door which leads to a hallway with 4 rooms, the personal rooms of each of the evil clerics.

2. Sarth's room:This is locked (-3 to lock pick) This room contains many books describing rituals, some clothing, some robes with a clawed hand symbol on the back and a bed and desk. There is a locked chest beside Sarth's bed (-5 to unlock). There is some treasure; rubies, diamonds and sapphires; a skull of unknown origin and a journal.

Sarth's journal: Most of the journal describes the how goblinoid's operations are fairing .It seems that they are making great progress in conquering more territory and they are building many bases to launch further attacks. In this journal, Sarth writes about how using sacrifices will give the demon king Urzgruul enough energy to return to the mortal realm. He also talks about how he one day he hopes to become the head of the temple because he feels that Kezlod is a poor temple master. He notes that Velda the troll and Lugis the orgre are among his few trusted friends. He also mentions that he is planning to overthrow Kezlod with the assistance of Velda and Lugis but he will wait for the right time. He mentions that Kezlod is a vampire and that the demon king made the fountain in the temple turn to blood and this is how Kezlod received his gift. He hopes that Urzgruul will reward him as well. He also mentions his hatred of the goblins in the temple. He speaks of the fact that the goblins do almost nothing. He states that he told Kezlod he wanted to have the goblins executed but Kezlod flatly refused and told Sarth to just continue bring forth sacrifices and in time rewards will come. Sarth also describes how he will be at Urzgruul's side when the demon king returnsand how he hopes to gain great powers for his service. He hopes that whenthey demon king returns, they will rule together.

3. Kezlod's room: This room is very dusty and unused. There is a stone coffin that has been badly damaged, a lot of bookshelves and a desk and clothing. There are some robes with a clawed hand on the back. If the coffin is moved, the PCs will find a locked box recessed in the floor. The locked box is -5 to pick. Inside the box is a journal and some coins of platinum.

Kezlod's journal: This journal describes ancient times. It discusses some of the stories that he had heard about the reign of Urzgruul and how he ruled with an iron fist. The forces of evil were in control of a huge area and all in the area paid tribute. There is mention that the site where the fortress was made was a node of especially powerful evil energy. It also discusses how he came to follow Urzgruul and the great powers that he gave him. It explains that Urzgruul granted him eternal life by making the fountain the temple flow blood and how when he drank it he turned into a vampire. He has been in the service of Urzgruul for over a thousand years. The journal then discusses some of the conquests and setbacks. It states that there were many times when Urzgruul was on the verge of returning only to have the forces of good go into the Valley of Suranth and defeat the goblinoid armies. He explains he has confidence that one day Urzgruul will return and victory will be assured and all of the world will offer tribute. Then the book returns to day to day sacrifices and goblinoid operations. It notes the daily rituals and the number of captives brought in.

4. Lugis' room: This room has a huge bed and all sorts of weapons lying around. There is a wooden chest (-3 to pick) with a journal and two potions.

Lugis' journal: Lugis describes how he became an adept through his great victories in battle. He states he has always been dedicated to Urzgruul and hopes to bring great glory back to the fortress. When the demon king returns he hopes to become the master of the temple. Lugis states that he will gain his power through brute force because he is an ogre and physically much more powerful than Sarth. He mentions that he trusts Sarth more than Kezlod because Sarth is much more focused than Kezlod. He also mentions Velda the troll-wife and states that she is trustworthy and he hopes she will help him to become master of the temple.

5. Velda's room: This room is very messy and disorganized. There is a huge bed and under the mattress is a journal. There are some shelves with various knickknacks on them.

Velda's journal: Most of what Velda wrote has to do with ceremony and rituals. It appears Velda is very power hungry. Velda states that she is hoping to become temple mistress to conspire Sarth and Lugis to kill Kezlod. She mentions that she dislikes Kezlod because he is very ancient and she feels that there needs to be new blood in order for the temple to expand. She states she trusts Lugis more than any but she also trusts Sarth. She dislikes Kezlod because she thinks he thinks he is better than the goblinoids because he is huldra.

6. Sacrifice Preparation room: This room has many cells housing prisoners.
The prisoners are bathed then sacrificed to Urzgruul. There are three goblins in this room. There are also 12 beings ready for sacrifice. Each goblin has a purse with coins and one has a key made of a black metal.

7. Torture room: This room is used to extract information and also assist with sacrificial preparation. There are many racks and chains upon the wall. There seems to be nothing more in this room until a strange metal sphere floats into the room. This metal sphere is a demon that was summoned specifically for torturing purposes.

ST 10 DX 12 IQ 12 HT 12 HP 15 Will 12 Per 15 FP 12 Speed 6.0 Move 10 SM 0 DR 15 Dodge 9 Parry nil

Freezing Tip of tenticle (15) 2d6 freezing damage
Burning tip of tenticle (15) 2d6 burning damage
Acid tenticle (15) 2d6 acid damage

Traits: Combat Reflexes; Dark vision; Doesn't Breath, Eat, Drink, Sleep; Extra Attacks 4;Extra Reach 2; Flight; Immunity to metabolic hazards; Indomitable; Injury Tolerance (No Blood, Brain, Neck, Vitals); unfazable.

This demon is a strange metal sphere that floats over sacrificial victims. It then determines what might be the most painful attack upon an individual. When PCs enter the room, the demon will float towards them and evaluate if they are intruders, which is most likely the case. It attacks by opening small holes on its spherical body and sending out blades, hooks or other pain inflicting devices which are held upon thin chains. The DR on these chains is 2 and if they take 6 points of damage then the chain will be broken reducing the number of attacks the demon has.
