It's almost better to look at the Chicken Steed as having a highly variable bonus that always gives you a 6. In that case, automatic escape from something that can be outrun makes sense. Automatic escape from something that can not be outrun is still impossible. In the given scenario, the other monsters are ignored, the Crabs get the munchkin in question. So would the Floating Nose and any other monster from which escape is impossible. Now a sacrificed Hireling, on the other hand, overcomes the impossible escape since that's right there in the rules. See, that's the rub; unless the Chicken Steed says, "even when escape is impossible," I don't see that you can even argue that it overrides an inescapable Monster's inescapableness.

And yes, I know that's not a word.
