Re: Steve's '07 plans & the report to the Stake Holders.
Just a few notes: - Yes, we plan to make e23 a big deal. I really believe in this, because while 240-page hardbacks are nice and solid, and really satisfying to hold in your hand when you're the author, they also consume far more resources than smaller items. The resources required to create content rise almost quadratically with page count, owing to the need to be internally consistent, while the resources required to publish a hardback are just . . . vast. e23 will let more writers create more good material more quickly, which is probably better for GURPS players, even if it's less thrilling for collectors of books.
- I'm editing High-Tech while Steve is editing Thaumatology. The guy who manages the line generally has more hours to dedicate to the line than the guy who runs the entire company . . . so of course High-Tech has pulled into the lead.
- Since 2004, fantasy fans have received Banestorm, Fantasy, and Magic -- and fans of superhuman character abilities, who are often fantasy fans, have seen Magic and Powers. Sci-fi fans have received Bio-Tech, Interstellar Wars, and Space, and are guaranteed Ultra-Tech Real Soon Now, unless a printing press blows up. Fans of realistic historical gaming haven't even received a crummy T-shirt, so it's only fair that we give them High-Tech. And don't forget that Martial Arts will benefit fans of all genres, and both realism freaks and people who like crazy special abilities. So Thaumatology falling behind High-Tech is unfortunate but perhaps ends up making things fairer for everyone.
- Boy, I sure hope I get to write some short e23 items! The length and format mean that I could actually wedge a few in around my line-development duties. My fingers are crossed.
