I'd play more GURPS, but man, I have stuff to do!
I have to agree, and beg to disagree at the same time.

Because of the "Generic" nature of GURPS, the GURPS Rules have to cover a lot more situations, and have a lot of rules to cover a broad array of potential campaign types. So, there is a lot of material, yes, but a relatively small portion of it will apply to traditional Fantasy, a small portion will apply to Sci Fi/Space/Biotech Campaigns, a small portion of the whole pertains to Supers, and so on (Lord help you if you're trying to run a high fantasy game of supers with access to magic and biotech :)

As a result of the broad nature of the campaigns that are available, coupled with the relatively small size of SJ Games compared to D&D, for example, it probably seems as if there are fewer "Campaign in the book", and each campaign will be supported by fewer sourcebooks with both game stuff and campaign world stuff in it.

But difficult to make characters? Have your players invest $15 in GCA and they can start picking and choosing, plugging in templates (fan based templates still don't cost a dime!) and building characters to their hearts' content.

It's quite easy to build characters, and I have found that once you start a campaign, as long as you have the character sheets handy, I don't go into the books for tables, for rules nearly as much as with other systems.

We choose to play a relatively rules light version of GURPS though.
