Default The State of the East End

It has now been more than 24 hours since the area of the East End that the players find themselves in has been transformed into a confusing and nightmarish place. The heavens are dark and the sun is occluded during the day, with the stars themselves changed at night.

All kinds of things are coming to life and the living are often changed in horrific ways. Families who barricade themselves in their homes are safer than most, as the more ravenous creatures roaming the streets appear to shy away from violating the sancitity of home, and any holy ground appears to be a sanctuary, at least if it is maintained by the faithful and clergy.

I want the PCs to be able to gather some rumours from the survivors that they have collected together in St. Botolph's church at Aldgate.

Significantly, the nearby St. Mary's Church is, unlike most other religious houses, not a sanctuary, as almost immediately upon the Great Change, it burst into flames. Those near to it that have found sanctuary have done so at the German Catholic church in nearby Union Street.

Rumours from the London Hospital are terrible, alleging that crippled patients have developed animal-like characteristics and are roaming the the nearby streets ravenous for human flesh. Strange and fast-acting plagues also proliferate around it, sometimes killing people in minutes and sometimes rotting their flesh while strenghtening their bodies and warping their minds.

Warehouses and the N. West Rail Goods Depot in Goodman's Fields have become the center for an orgy of looting by many of East End's criminal fraternity. Nothing, however, has been heard from Victoria Rail Depot and rumours are that no one has met a survivor that claims to have been there and that something terrible lurks under it. A boy of twelve claims that he saw bands of gray men patrolling Goodman's Yard, dragging survivors with them into the Victoria Rail Depot, but he was far away and his testimony is hardly conclusive.

I'm looking for more rumours, cool threats to find and local colour.

Is there any place on the way from Aldgate to the Tower that has any vegetation at all, even weeds?

Would pigs be kept at any locations in Goodman's Fields, near Fenchurch Street or Aldgate?

Where in this area would pigeons gather?
