Default Ogre Geek Code

I'm not advocating any overt elitism, and this is more than 15 years past when the "Geek Code" was "cool", but for those of you that might be interested, here are two messages from the old, OLD Ogre mailing list that dealt with the so-called "Ogre Geek Code". There are a few of us on these forums that use it as taglines.

A very few things have changed since 2004, so I've revised this a bit and added an item or two. I'm not proposing that everyone use this, but go for it if you want and/or tweak it a bit for your own use. Have fun.

So you consider yourself an Ogre Geek? Try this out . . .

First appearance of the Ogre Geek Code:

My version of the Ogre Geek Code, circa 2004:
http://mail.sjgames.com/pipermail/og...er/000162.html
------------------------------

Here's my current version:

----------------
STARTED PLAYING: S
Metagaming (1977): ++++
3rd Edition, SJG (1982): +++
Deluxe Ogre/GEV (1987): ++
1st Ogre/GEV combined edition (1990): +
Ogre Miniatures (1992): -
Ogre/GEV Y2K “Fifth” Edition (2000): --
Ogre Designer’s Edition or later (2012): ---

PREFERRED GAME: indicate level of preference for rule sets with '+++' to '---' or () = did not play:
Ogre 1st ed: O1
Ogre 2nd ed: O2
G.E.V.: G
Shockwave: S
Reinforcement Pack: RP
Ogre Miniatures: OM
Battlefields: B
GURPS Ogre: GO
Ogre 6th ed: O6e

Note: Joseph Bloch (2001/gevfeb28.txt) suggested that there be a
code for "would like to" and used the example that he was
S>OM
meaning that he played Shockwave rules, but would like to play
Ogre Miniatures.

I would include the rating of what you are currently playing:
S++>OM

PRODUCTS OWNED: PO
(This includes miniatures sets; individually-purchased miniatures
don't count here. I guess you could include the special third-party
counter sheets for Ogre 6e here.)
0-1: ---
2-3: --
4-5: -
6-8: +
9-11: ++
12+: +++

DEVELOPED EXTENSIVE HOUSE RULES AND/OR NEW UNITS: HR/NU
indicate level of effort with '+++' to '---' or () = did not do:

STATUS OF OGRE MINIATURES: MK3, MK5
(This is based on the average completion status of your miniatures.)
Still in box: ---
Out of box, partially glued together: --
Glued together, possibly primered: -
Base-coated, no detailing: +
Fully detailed, 'tabletop quality': ++
Competition-quality or conversion: +++
() = I do not do miniatures

STATUS OF OTHER MINIATURES: CM
(Average status of ALL non-Ogre minis, same indicators as 'Status
of Ogre Miniatures'.) () = I do not do miniatures

DEVELOPED A WEBSITE:
(Does not have to be currently on-line. But please, PLEASE think
about doing so again. There's been some good ones drop off-radar
in the last few years . . .)
posted a few pictures: ---
basic "I like it" fanboy site: --
some real content, scenarios, alt units, etc.: -
real content and great graphics: +
extensive content and/or a cohesive whole: ++
kick-ass site (ala 'Pan Pacific Alliance' quality): +++
() = I do not have a website and am unreasonably jealous of those
you who do!

PARTICIPATED IN THE 2012 KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN: KS
(With a very rough idea of how wild you went and just how much money
you ended up blowing on our wonderful hobby)
didn't participate in the KS campaign: ()
got some stuff but didn’t get the game (<$100): +
got the game and maybe some swag ($100 - $150): ++
went completely nuts and sold a kidney (> $150): +++
uh . . . *blush* . . . became a “sponsor”: ++++

----------------

Now I need to change my tagline to this:

S+++ O1() O2+ G+++ S++ RP++ OM() B++ GO() O6e() PO+++ HR/NU- MK3() MK5-- CM-- W() KS+++

S+++ O1() O2+ G+++ S++ RP++ OM() B++ GO() O6e() PO+++ HR/NU- MK3() MK5-- CM-- W() KS+++
based on Michael Powers' message in 2001/gevfeb23.txt
