Re: Reducing many rolls to fewer rolls

One thought I had was just have one roll and increase the critical chance by an appropriate margin. 7 or lower = crit success (narratively speaking) and 14 or higher = crit fail. Less mathematics...

Re: [AtE] Black Powder vs Smokeless

I've read about people using matchheads to refill caps during the depression, but I can't verify that. (you may also have to lead the target a bit if the is any lag due to improper chemicals)
While...

Re: [DF] Rare metalworking setting weapons/armor?

If you are interested I did some musing about the strength of wood here (https://www.ravensnpennies.com/the-hurt-locker-how-tough-is-wood/). It may have useful applications if you are using wooden...

Re: [AtE] Black Powder vs Smokeless

The process I read about for extracting sulphur was bacteria based. Basically a decomposition pit with a hood to capture the sulphur in gas form. It struck me as suitable for a relatively organized...

Re: [AtE] Black Powder vs Smokeless

Two handy sources for sulphuric acid and nitrates are respectively, car batteries and shearing sheds. Depending on the exact tech level and location.

[Edit]
Gib board/plaster board is a source of...

Re: [AtE] Wasteland vehicle improvised weaponry

A radio controlled/dumb/kamikaze go-kart loaded with improvised explosives would make an erratic but potentially devastating weapon.

Re: [AtE] Wasteland vehicle improvised weaponry

There are some cultural differences at work here, I would call that a Ute, sorry for any confusion. The numbers I played with where for a vehical more suited to being the front unit on a road train.

Re: [AtE] Wasteland vehicle improvised weaponry

I did some very quick calculations for an entry in another thread (http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.php?p=2203191&postcount=199).
1/4 inch steel plate adds 6.7 tonnes for a large truck, I worked...

Re: [AtE] Wasteland vehicle improvised weaponry

Hmmm
-Flamethrowers (don't use in a head wind)
-Hydraulic claws and arms (great for walls, defences and spectacular crashes if used at speed)
-Blackpowder cannons (who doesn't want a battle truck...

Re: The End of the World

These number are I think based on a 1/4 inch thick tire being about DR 10. At a guess add 2 DR (4 ply kevlar replacing the steel belt). Maybe reduce weight by 10%. Easier to work with than tires....

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

A combination of the sewage outfalls and landfills (I think). The oceanic dumped phosphorus may be too diffuse to be useful. Mining reefs might work, it does fit the world is falling apart vibe. It...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

Quite possible, price may be an issue depending on what chemicals get mixed in. But if the recovery from sewage started too late there wouldn't be much phosphorus in the system.

Re: The End of the World

While not quite as aesthetically appropriate kevlar/aramid reinforced conveyor belt has numerous benefits over tire rubber. Stronger, lighter and available in large lengths.

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

Hot times
One potentially source of conflict in this setting is phosphates, given that such minerals are needed for life and food production. Existing terrestrial mining is expected to hit peak...

Re: The End of the World

While not strictly recycling, tires filled with gravel make functional walls and retaining walls. They do match the aesthetic of the setting however.

Re: [AtE] Academia, and it's potential legacies

The history department and associated areas of study like anthropology may have individuals with anachronistic skills that may come in useful.

Also the library is an asset.

Re: [AtE] Academia, and it's potential legacies

While not exactly academia, I've used a sports science / Olympic training camp as a foundation for an AtE group before. While all the skills are focused on athletic competition there are many skills...

There are some outdoor rules and several of the random encounters from Hall of Judgement that could get used as well.

Re: [ATE] Farming example

Well I had an abbreviated set of rules in draft form for a pyramid article. There was still a bit of work to do but a framework was there. Then pyramid went on hiatus so that got shelved.
At the...

- Ogres
