Re: [Ultra-Tech] What does the TL10 battlefield look like

Post-war humanitarian efforts involve rapidly deploying force grown insects.

It's not like warfare has ever been good for the ecosystem after all.

Re: Are TL4 'Rocket-Pack's Possible?

Please send me a PM if you find links. All I can find suggest that all evidence from earlier than 40k BP is quite sketchy.
But my search skills are mediocre.

Re: [Ultra-Tech] What does the TL10 battlefield look like

I fully agree. But full scale war past TL7 is not so much war as apocalypse.

Re: [Ultra-Tech] What does the TL10 battlefield look like

I'd say that even more important for the nature of warfare than the TL is global politics and culture.
It's not like modern wars really have two TL8 nations going full out against each other.

Re: [Basic] Advantage of the Week (#50): Extended Lifespan, Longevity, Unaging

In some settings, it may even qualify as a dangerous secret.
It reminds me of the plot of The Immortal

Re: DIY Nuclear Reactors After the End

A nice way to reign in a Fallout setting for a more realism loving group.

It's also a good excuse for why a post apoc society maintained advanced scientific knowledge.

Re: How do time-travelers calculate the date?

There would be specific events like volcanic eruptions and meteor strikes such as the dino-killer. But it's not like we know that the Chicxulub crater formed on a Tuesday at 9:51 A.M, for example.

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

How do insurance companies and murder investigations work? Did he just lose control of his car in the rain, or was it caused by a ghost?

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

So very much so. Defining humans as post bottleneck of around 70k BP will get a massively different number than if you define human as a genus starting around 2 million BP.

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

I've noticed that more than a few define human as a genus rather than species, sub-species, or post stone age peoples as that did radically change who and what we are IMO.

Re: Sufficiently Advanced Technology

I couldn't tell the difference between a good stage magician and someone performing real magic.
I certainly don't believe in magic, but I couldn't tell the difference.
I think that's what's meant...

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

Assassins would simply find ways of delivering poisons by proxy. The mail carrier is doing their job honestly as they don't know the cake's deadly.

It could lead to interesting high society...

Re: Real-Life Weirdness

This is probably a very good timeline to transport odd items or even non-humans. We'd just assume good or bad cosplay.

Re: Real-Life Weirdness

Got to love this line from the article. "So, it wasn’t a Nazi plane—it was Nazi plane cosplay."

No Evil Skerry: It's a trio of realities.

See No Evil: This worldline suffered an invasion of something that killed everyone not legally blind. Survivors are few for obviously reasons. But...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Gluttony and Increased Consumption

It certainly fits a poorly managed hyperthyroid. I lost weight eating an average of 5k Calories a day back when mine was hyper. And that was the only symptom, thankfully. Back then I was only...

Re: Halloween and Other disgraceful Holidays; Memetic Seasonal Warfare.

Anti-Halloween fundamentalists are probably fragmented into sub-groups fighting each major holiday.
Pro-Halloween religious folks probably care only about the anti ones, because why should they care...

Re: Halloween and Other disgraceful Holidays; Memetic Seasonal Warfare.

Halloween clashes between the Tricksters wanting it to be a night of pranks, the Treaters that want traditional candy, and the Wassailers wanting a return to old school values of singing and drinking...

Re: Planetary Mass Computers

We can't disprove it. Because if we're programs, then we could just as easily be programmed to think we got the results that would convince us we're not programs.
Also just because our universe is...

Re: Making elves for GURPS

Noble, wise, perfect in nearly every way elves are rather boring and heavily classist. I don't think they appeal to modern audiences, for the most part. They may work as adversaries in a common...

Are we really anywhere near that level? I assumed we were still in the "rare cosmic rays hitting the upper atmosphere" level.

Re: Planetary Mass Computers

It doesn't have to be gaming simulations. It could be that for their level of physics, they need to perform insanely in depth long term simulations to render experiments safe. If we fly by the seat...
