Re: Some questions on Luck with modifiers.

Wait, since when do Tauren go rogue?

Otherwise, yeah, that's one of the uses of meta-abilities - a 'soft', limited-use way of fudging the game when you really care about it (but not at other...

Re: Some questions on Luck with modifiers.

IIRC Kromm said that Luck seems to be primarily kept in store to be used against nasty crits, so the limitation seems stingy.

Re: Body Language vs Detect Lies

An interrogator is likely to be trained in face-to-face methods of lie detection, such as microexpression spotting of Ekman (or the fictional Lightman), since it's way more typical for interrogations...

Re: How much should I tell?

Following up on the 'meta-' characteristics, consider whether to post such things as where your campaigns stand on the sliding scale of idealism to cynicism (in the modern sense of the word). For me...

Re: Why Dirigibles?

Something like an aerogel, except that the expansion during production produces vacuum pockets (instead of air pockets) for some reason, and it's impermeable and non-fragile enough that it doesn't...

Re: How to give fatigue points more meaning?

Grappling, ST-based skill rolls, stuck pick removal etc. It's nasty enough to not be negligible but niche enough to not be crippling. By comparison, having ST-halving result in recalculation of BL...

Re: How to give fatigue points more meaning?

Jumping length calculation without some exponenetiation and at least basic trigonometry doesn't pass the reality sniff test, and yet 'we' use linear calculations of jump heights and breadths. Because...

Re: How to give fatigue points more meaning?

Basic Lift is a ST-based quantity. If anything, reduction of BL seems even more antithetical to how these things are approached than the more linear derived numbers.

Re: Body Language vs Detect Lies

Except in this case it's more like a split between Observation and Intelligence Analysis. Now, if we're marging all skills into a manageable list of 20-30, then of course Body Language and Detect...

Re: Body Language vs Detect Lies

Body Language takes all vision penalties, and doesn't work against purely audio or text channels. The uFAQ adds a few more notes (http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.php?p=1070148&postcount=27) on...

Re: Question on when to use Social Stigma vs Odious Racial Habit on Monster Races

This is explained in detail on page 128 of Fantasy. Short version is add the Universal modifier to Appearance.

Do note that sometimes it makes sense for a technically racial template to provide...

Re: High Wis Low Int character?

I would argue that at least in D&D, religion goes with Wis. Clerics are the Wis class, not the Int class, after all. So not very good at listing what book which quote is from, but very good at...

Re: Power High-Tech into Ultra-Tech

I use the batteries-to-cells conversion ratios that have been finally revealed after all these years . . . in Psi-Tech of all places.

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Debt

I'd say it's both. Normally the PC is low on take-home money even despite having good starting funds and ongoing wealth (e.g. a lucrative job and good socioeconomic connections). If the PC fails to...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Debt

That seems like a very different trait, which performs a very different functions and describes a different kind of character.

Re: [Spaceships] Paying more for better system?

Remember that active sensors can detect objects beyond their 'maximum' range at -2 per doubling of range.

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Debt

Your proof can be easily reversed by taking TL9 instead of TL3 (income $3,600, debt 20 being $6,000; even not paying CoL at all won't allow one to pay the debt every month). Also, even at lower TL,...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Debt

I would say on the contrary: the higher levels of Debt are unplayable unless one has an income source other than Job Rolls, since one's discretionary income is equal to approximately 10% of one's...

It seems that while octopodes lack colour-sensitive photoreceptor differentiation, they manage to distinguish colours using a purely 'software' method (analysing the difference in...

Re: Should Plate Armor be Harder to Penetrate?

AoA does provide +2 or +1/die, whichever is better, as per MA Basic Set. The damage bonuses of Super Throw, Weapon Master etc. work similarly.

Re: Should Plate Armor be Harder to Penetrate?

The objection is indeed to the claim that "very different levels of an attribute produce a numerically almost same effect" can be "working as intended", as in RPGs it is desirable to have meaningful...

Re: Should Plate Armor be Harder to Penetrate?

Even with retention of the current range, the de facto variation will be reduced. 8-15 is currently a very commonly applied restriction; in fact I don't seem to encounter many mentions of going for...

Re: Should Plate Armor be Harder to Penetrate?

I'll go over the steps of the cycle:

ST 13+ penetrates armour too easily? Let's change that.
Okay, now ST13 is not really different from ST10, despite costing a whopping [30] to get.
Past this...

Re: Should Plate Armor be Harder to Penetrate?

Don't take things out of context. The point that you bolded was a follow-up to the previous points, one of which was explicitly changing the damage curve in reply to complaints about ST13 being too...
