But impulse drives are reaction drives. Specifically they're fusion drives that, thanks to the mass-lightening tech Trek ships have, allow the ship to magically reach high accelerations.

Wouldn't an ETC cartridge, a bigger one at least, still produce higher recoil than using a SCHV round like 5.56 NATO?

What about weight issues?

That's a disadvantage and the ones you guys are suggesting are probably too small to not be worth it. Unless they're good for airbursting troops behind cover or something, getting smaller than 25mm...
