Re: Setting Ideas: Why Would a Society turn away from the Internet?

What a humdinger of a discussion topic!

Well firstly I'll say that while the increased connectivity of the internet may make some crimes more simple, the value from having free and open networks...

Re: Radioactive Magic

A friend of mine used a similar concept of magic accumulation in a game he ran. Later, I tried converting the effects (which were mostly assessed on an ad hoc basis by the GM) into a consistent...

Re: Trial by Jury A GURPS Approach?

The traditional trial by jury and judge is listed as an Adversarial Trial, in both the GURPS Basic Set (page 508) and in GURPS Social Engineering (page 54). They both treat the trial as a single...

Re: Sniper Rifles?

The sniper rifles are listed in High Tech among the regular rifle entries. The Accuracy International AW is the most common TL8 example, on page 118, but there are others that have good range and...

Re: Modern Map Sources

I've used Rand McNally street maps for games before. I handed a copy over to the players to use for planning their convoys through the post-apocalyptic midwest and kept a copy for my own notetaking...

Re: Making more ammo stuck on a low tech world.

What about using high power air guns? Depending on how much bang you actually need, you can get by with a bullet mold and a hand pump.

Re: Melee combat with a centaur...

Do not forget the caltrops. The centaur's other big advantage, besides his size, is his ability to move faster than a man on foot. Caltrops help negate that advantage.

Re: Polycarbonyl Explosive: REF 1.9 at TL8

A gem quality synthetic will sell for about what I was citing, depending on the size, clarity, and color. It wasn't too hard to get prices for those.

Polycarbonyl Explosive: REF 1.9 at TL8

[Mod reminder: Cyrillic characters trip a LOT of our spam filters. Avoid them unless they are truly necessary. Please do not edit this post for any reason; if you need to make corrections, post a...

Re: Amorphous metal alloy for the Cutting Edge armor rules

No, because palladium is prohibitively rare and expensive. The research on palladium glass focused on characterizing the strength and hardness of the material in the cheapest way possible (it was...

Re: Amorphous metal alloy for the Cutting Edge armor rules

I invite you to refer to the journal article. Demetriou et al didn't phrase things in such a pat way. That was all me, based on the information they provided in their article and existing data on...

Amorphous metal alloy for the Cutting Edge armor rules

Amorphous metal alloys can exhibit startling material properties. The best of them that have been published is the Palladium Glass alloy developed by Marios D. Demetriou, and written about in Nature...

Re: The price of Ore

If you follow the traditional gem company model it's because of careful cultivation of a monopoly using economic incentives, bribes, political advantage, and outright violence.

Re: Need some help with an alien race

You might consider giving them Enhanced Move (Water) too, if they're of aquatic origin.

Re: The Film Reroll: an RPG/Film Podcast - using GURPS!

The Film ReRoll crew finished up their rendition of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and I have to say it was a really interesting take on the story, and probably the extended universe I'd most like to...

Re: [Ultra-Tech] Ranged weapons mods and customization

One option your player might want to consider is using multi-ball ammunition of some sort, per the rules on p. HT173. He'd be trading some damage per projectile and overall range, but he'd get Recoil...

Re: [AtE] Unnatural Laser

It all seems rather dependent on the pre-apocalypse TL if you ask me. Even if your gadgeteer can find the parts and succeed at the invention rolls, you'll be at the mercy of having enough power cells...

Interesting Martial Arts Advantages and Powers

The idea here is to share interesting work-ups for martial arts types. I'll start with a Chi power I came up with based on an idea a player had:

The Chi Plate is a dish sized packet of defensive...

Re: How to make a skeletal familiar

You'll need a corpse. Fresher is better, and the quality of the bones matters too. Don't bother with old people, their bones are usually in poor shape. You'll want a heathy younger person who died of...

Re: Multiplicative Modifiers not applied to items in a template

I just went back and tested that, and it did not appear to affect the items inside the template at all.

Multiplicative Modifiers not applied to items in a template

I was applying a home-made vampire template (designed for a cinematic campaign) to a new character when I noticed that the cost modifiers to advantages in the template were being calculated under the...

Re: Small size firearms

If your lilliputian was not using a custom-made scaled weapon, I'd start with a .22lr or .22 magnum revolver and fit it with custom grip (shaped like a stock), barrel heat guard or forward grip, and...
