Re: Lifepaths in Faaantasy!!!

Central Casting gives out attribute modifiers, skill points (including magic), money modifiers, the occasional one-off weird item, other misc advantages and disadvantages type things, and even some...

Re: [Basic] Advantage of the Week (#17): Brachiator; Clinging; Super Climbing

I would require Force-Field (+20%) with a prerequisite of Attraction (+25%) - this would also let you stick with your shirted back, the hat on top of your head, etc without having your clothing peel...

Re: [Basic] Is a quarterstaff obviously a weapon?

"Quarterstaff" is a specific English term for a specific English weapon, which has metal endcaps. The default matches the word.

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Fanaticism

Fanaticism can be mistaken for the above because drives people to take actions that they know have low odds of success because they believe they need to be done. Daesh suicide bombers (Extreme...

Re: Kindly Necromancers

Related tangent linked back to the original topic closer, but I could see a definite role for a medium between the recipients of organ donation and their (deceased) donors.

Recipients of anonymous...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Fanaticism

Dungeon Fantasy games where the players refuse to back down, retreat, compromise, or surrender when faced with overwhelming force, even when it becomes painfully obvious mid fight that you're getting...

Re: Kindly Necromancers

Other people giving away their organs is generally approved of. It's still hard to find enough people willing to sign donor cards, and rather much harder to get their families to agree after death to...

Re: Kindly Necromancers

Necromancy generally isn't about being death priests who sit around and worship A Good Death. It's about digging up Grandmama and putting her to work digging your potatoes (undignified, not a rest...

Re: [Basic] Stress-related disadvantages

I think we're confusing a few things here.

Things that are caused by stress (often chronic stress, but acute stress as well). Character fails a fright check and gains a disad, character keeps...

Re: Electromagnetic vision power

Considering that humans already have electromagnetic vision, I really wouldn't sweat the handwavium, and focus on the SFX.

An alternative option might be Detect Life (Precise), if it doesn't pick...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the week: Bad Temper and Berserk

Doesn't necessarily mean a serious physical attack - The Three Stooges for the most part deal out whaps and slaps and smacks of anger, not punches, and women stereo-typically deliver a stinging slap...

Re: Recovery from unconsciousness rules

It's worth pointing out that waking up doesn't get you on your feet as a free action either - it takes two seconds to stand up (without use of Acrobatics). Assuming you didn't get your leg broken on...

Re: Pocket-sized Edition?

It's nice to have it at a reasonable size of font and not have to pan around a lot. Unless I'm reading off my Surface Pro 3 (which isn't a real tablet but plays one on TV) I definitely have to zoom...

Re: Recovery from unconsciousness rules

The Awaken spell wakes them up instantly, I think it's even good on Coma (although it won't get you any HP back). It's extremely useful for this. I vaguely remember that Ultratech has some sort of...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the week: Bad Temper and Berserk

I've been using that rule for a while. Very happy to see it hit print when it did, that "synergy" was ridiculous.

Re: Realistic lightning damage

That's SO much more safer though. You'll probably get burned by the armor heating up in sections, but it'll generally prefer the armor.

The copper rod on the other hand, assuming it's not a big...

Re: Realistic lightning damage

Basically, lightning is an environmental hazard and of significant danger that it should be played out in detail to give players agency.

Unless dispensed by a wrathful deity at which point...

Re: Realistic lightning damage

Random is the key here. Not very many people are actually hit by lightning. A major lightning storm should be treated like any other potentially dangerous situation - you don't say "Oh, well you went...

Re: Idea about str, damage, dr scaling

Mentioning 150 points strongly suggests to me that "your point cost" is "your net point value". IE a 150 point campaign with a -40 point disad limit is still "150" .

Re: SM and movement

Optimum for speed on land via the use of legs. Bats and sugargliders do not apply, dolphins, seals, whales, also not covered.

There are other whales that are decidedly faster (the fin...

Re: Lifepaths in Faaantasy!!!

The Central Casting series definitely are skewed towards producing !ADVENTURERS!, which is perfect. Heroes Now! also has GURPS rules in it, although they're 3e and mostly just for selecting skills,...

Re: Hall of Judgment for the DFRPG: Now LIVE!

Got it in Canada on Tuesday in pristine condition. The paper quality is amazing -- Doug is right to be proud of it. There is no bleed through from the other side, the artwork and lettering is crisp...

Re: Crispr and supers

Epigenetics.

Short description, some genes are activated in response to conditions, rather than on a schedule regulated by other genes. Once activated they can remain activated in subsequent...

Re: SM and movement

Is this maximum speed as measured in distance traveled over ground, or strides per time period? I assume this is sustained ground speed and not short bursts (hello cheetahs).

Not surprised to hear...

Re: Crispr and supers

Pretty sure he's talking about most of the chromosones except the sex chromosomes. The sex chromosomes are exceptional for being able to support a lot of repetition (XXX, XXY, XYY, XXYY) because of...
