The only case where ITBW exists at all is for Wizard's Staffs who get it at the same time as ITDW. And I don't want to unleash a sword with a Break Weapon enchantment.

Is there a strong case for strong characters?

I don't see any point in putting more than ST 12 on a starting character and even that is only because of the light crossbow sniper.

The rest of the party should be ST 9 or less.

Did you try the 3d shrewd charge with Javelin onto the whiped?

Do 8 points and they're fallen for another turn so back up and do it again! (Running helps)

The maximum practical spell then becomes ST 10 + Aid 5 + Mana 40 = 55

Note that powerstones won't help as per page 163: "but will replace ST
lost through spell-casting or other fatigue."

While in the meantime actual historical Macedonian phalanxes are impossible in TFT because you can't have overlapping pikes.

Just enchant your potion bottles with the Immunity to Break Weapons enchantment that is mentioned on pages 24 and 42 and doesn't exist.

But only gas bombs and molotails are required to be carried...
