Re: System for economic simulation

You seem to be talking about monetary income. There are three things to say about that:

1. Monetary income can increase if the money supply increases. This doesn't have to be inflationary, though...

Re: Bio-tech related Quirks and Perks

I think that might be just a specific reason for Unattractive.

Re: System for economic simulation

But if your players are successful economic actors, they will change the real world, and the data will no longer be valid.

As for encouraging competition, it seems as if you are trying to create a...

Re: System for economic simulation

That doesn't follow. You're assuming the total size of the industry remains the same and MegaPCCorp's share of the industry is taken away from the other firms. But if you look at recent economic...

Re: System for economic simulation

I think that kind of modeling is beyond the capabilities of actual academic researchers with large grants.

There's also an interesting problem with it. You want players to use it to have their...

Re: Bio-tech related Quirks and Perks

In Theodore Sturgeon's short story "The [Widget], the [Wadget], and Boff," one of the characters has problems along those lines, and is seriously troubled by them, though he only seems to be about...

Re: Completely left-field question...

You did give the allosaur a few points of DR for its hide, right?

Re: New to Gurps: Lots of questions!

Just as a note, I've run a GURPS Fantasy campaign, using standard GURPS Magic spells, where characters were built on 75 points with 37 points in disads. Of course, they were 14-year-old boys who had...

Re: New to Gurps: Lots of questions!

Apollonian has already said what I was going to say, which is that while Magic is an almost essential purchase if you want to use the Basic Set magic system, Fantasy may not be as good a choice as...

Re: Independent Income at later TL stages

And if you do want to think about economics, using those rules would still be the last step. You figure out what sequence of events you're envisioning, and then translate its results into GURPS...

Re: Bio-tech related Quirks and Perks

In fact, I wrote that exact perk up in GURPS Powers: Enhanced Senses, on p. 26.

Re: TL 0 campaigns?

Important bits from it went into GURPS Dinosaurs, and other important bits (with some overlap) into the original edition of GURPS Low-Tech, and into the 4/e GURPS LTC 3.

I must confess that one of...

Re: Independent Income at later TL stages

The thing is, I worked out some accounting rules for the traders in my current bronze age fantasy campaign; I kept track of the costs of crew wages, and supplies, and repairs, and the cost of...

Re: Independent Income at later TL stages

I would be sort of inclined to discourage this kind of rules tweaking.

For one thing, there really isn't a GURPS Capitalism supplement, and I doubt that there ever will be. GURPS isn't a game...

Re: TL 0 campaigns?

GURPS Low-Tech says quite explicitly that even though bronze is the signature technology for TL1, a society can count as TL1 if it's advanced enough in other ways. Agriculture, pastoralism,...

Re: TL 0 campaigns?

One of the subtexts of my campaign is that each of the races is modeled behaviorally on a nonhuman mammal species. Dwarves are naked mole rats, elves are, well, sort of like gibbons, ghouls are...

Re: TL 0 campaigns?

As it happens, I'm running a fantasy campaign set in a TL1 world.

In my setting, there are seven different races that we would call Hominidae, and perhaps Homo. All of them are slightly...

Re: Rolling Probability

1) The chance of rolling a 12 or less is 160/216, or 0.74074. The chance of doing so four times is the fourth power of that, or 0.30107. So on the average you'll make the roll every 3 1/3 days.

2)...

It's a while since I've reread Dune, but I'd be interested to see someone else work it out.

Re: Independent Income at later TL stages

Well, actually, it means that you get $X per month and you don't have to work for it. Back in 3/e it cost 5 points; that seemed about right for "you have some money coming in but it doesn't take time...

Re: Companies Finance

There are, however, two steps in that. The first is to figure out what (more or less) real world traits the corporation has. The second is to figure out how to represent them in GURPS terms so...

Re: Point Cost vs. Money Cost for Cybernetic Advantages

This is a minor point, but that's actually a 60% cost reduction, which gives 40 points. You don't apply one limitation and then the other; you add them and apply the total.

Re: Companies Finance

No, and that's because GURPS isn't a comprehensive reality modeling game, and particularly isn't an economic modeling game. Trying to use it for that purpose is bound to produce unrealistic results....

Re: Companies Finance

I would need to see the actual series of transactions and the rolls that permit them.
