Re: Innate attack cost in high-tech games?

I usually advocate or allow an attack that's the equivalent of a weapon to be two perks: accessory and legal immunity (can carry item in public). If people don't know that you have the attack, a...

Re: Hunter, The vigil : Need tips to roleplay a Catholic Priest

Note: the traditional Russian church is orthodox, not catholic. Not to say that he can't be catholic, only that it is an atypical combination. Though given the specific backstory he may have...

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

So basically a game of civilization, after the manner of sid meier?

It's a fun concept, I must say.

Re: Alternate History / Timeline: Invading the US

A while back we had a thread on a British/US war. You have to time it right to make it interesting, and you have to have politicians foolishly ramp up tensions, but its probably the biggest invasion...

Re: [World-Building] Hypothetical insular banana republic - why insular?

The "don't know what country they are in" approach sounds the most valid to me. They will have some minor geographic obstacles, enough outside contact to have enough guns to not get immediately run...

Re: A question about Tech Levels

On pages 8 and 9, it describes which communities are brought to yrth. Specifically western europe, Muslim tribesmen, the celts and Scandinavians of an earlier period, and the decidedly non-Greek...

Re: Pre-human civilizations on Earth

For a pre-Mesozoic civilization, yes, your statement discards most scenarios. As bill pointed out, Corvids would challenge your statement, and that means some dinosaurs are valid candidates.

Re: 7-8 Settings to Give a Tour De GURPS

It also gives the promise of being able to keep characters freely between different campaigns, which doesn't work that well on a campaign basis.

Also, infinite worlds only uses one FEEL. yes, you...

Re: [Thaumatology] Communal Environmental Thresholds for unlimited mana

Particuarly its size, and whether or not the boundaries are clearly defined. Those two attributes will greatly effect the social effect of magic. Is the area the size of a room? of a field? of a...

Re: Looking for good House Rule on Wealth

Armor isn't Cheap. Never was. Hastari aren't so much poor as young and not yet established. The militia class of Rome was reasonably wealthy before the wars that built the republic bankrupted them....

Re: Exotic Governmental/Legal Systems

Separating the branch that makes laws from the branch that grants funding and raises taxes might make for an interesting system. I suspect the power ends up in the hands of the taxers, and possibly...

Re: Exotic Governmental/Legal Systems

Only those over a certain age can vote. Set this high for strongest effect.

Only those who own a specific piece of property (a mode of transport or an amount of land is historically attested) have...

Re: Is what I've heard about GURPS alternative magic system true?

What do you mean by best? Most engaging to play out learning? A nice steady progression of power? a quick return on points invested?

I don't think any magic system stands out more than any other...

Re: Gender as a social thing and patriarchal

Its possible to distinguish economic roles based on size without regard for gender. But it won't look like a reskinned "Men vs. women", it will look like "Men vs. Boys" or "Jocks vs. Nerds".

Re: Future AtE Supplements

That's a good one. I personally struggle with knowing what sort of campaign to run in an ATE game, even looking at the book.

Re: Is this Working as Intended or did i messed things up?

The character has 180 points in IQ, 45 points in magery, more than 100 points in spells, and a bunch more points in energy recovery and Energy reserve.

He's pushing a total of at least 350...

It suffers from some of the same problems as harems, but often in a diminished form. Ibn Saud, the founder of saudi arabia, had 45 sons and more daughters. His most direct heirs have had large...

Re: Four-Armed Giants! Build Help Request

Yep. This is exactly the way to do it: two extra arms and a technique that lets them attack one target with multiple limbs.

Re: Gear crafting system using exotic materials?

I don't think you need a terribly complicated system. I'd start with the weapons and armor from low tech, and then give each monster material a set of modifiers. Page 275 of basic describes how to...

Re: [Game] Animate a Monster Hunters Setting

The exact method appears to vary for each monster: a few were brought back in ships, but many others seem to move of their own accord. Its often very difficult to tell exactly what path a given...

Re: Collaborative Worldbuilding Threads

I think with vetoes it'd be nice to limit folks to one veto per x number of posts. Or even just limit the number of times a question can be vetoed. Votes take a long time to resolve.
