Re: The Future of the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game?

A beautiful, playable and well-made product which sold out. As failures go, this one is pretty close to success. It was probably even, barely, profitable.

The problems seem to be that making good...

Re: What would you have paid for five DF books on KS?

For five books of this length? $49.95-ish retail so probably around $40 as a Kickstarter, I guess about $8 for the screen without booklets. So overall I might have been willing to pay $50.

Re: [Spells] Why is Command a blocking spell, and how does it work?

No such reach based limits apply to "attack him", though. Or attacks on yourself with reach C weapons, or low bulk ranged weapons. Shooting yourself in a limb or extremity with almost any firearm...

Re: Martial Arts, Kusari and Rope Dart conundrum

Chain whips probably ought to be usable with whip though. The real life things can mostly be used like a whip.

I actually learned a lot of Kusari Sport usable moves from a whip master last year,...

Re: Multiplayer Fridays

There's no reason to think they've abandoned Ogre, and such rumors are rarely helpful. Jake still responds to bug reports, and the Ogre dev team still seems active.

Re: [Spells] Why is Command a blocking spell, and how does it work?

It might have been clearer to say what maneuvers they can be forced to take (even "any Manuever that doesn't grant an attack").

Honestly I always thought that "Attack (or stab/shoot/bash)...

Re: [DF] Why don't sea elves have Speak Underwater?

The lagoon cities of the sea elves probably count as "Old Country".

Re: Multiplayer Fridays

Maybe later.

Edit: I have been on for a couple of hours now, BTW. No games yet.

Re: [Spells] Why is Command a blocking spell, and how does it work?

Apparently, but there's nothing in the text that would indicate that "Attack yourself" or "Surrender" doesn't work (or that even more complex commands don't work in languages with more economy).

Re: [DF] Why don't sea elves have Speak Underwater?

In settings where that is true, innate language should probably go on the template, but that's not usually the case.

Re: [DF] Magery And Effect And Healing Spells

The intent of Magery and Effect is that they are, it explicitly says that higher Magery allows you to exceed the minimum limits.

That doesn't mean that Magery can substitute for a different...

Apparently that is what is supposed to happen, regardless.

Re: [DF] Why don't sea elves have Speak Underwater?

Languages don't normally appear on racial templates at all. What language do all humans know?

Re: [DF] Why don't sea elves have Speak Underwater?

. They don't see colors with retinal pigments, but that doesn't mean they are colorblind. They may see colors via exploiting chromatic aberration instead of the way we do.

They certainly can sense...

Re: [DF] Why don't sea elves have Speak Underwater?

I don't have a conceptual problem with amphibious humanoids using a sign language.

Re: A Dungeoneering Fan, but a Total Gurps Newbie

It really depends on which edition, and how much that edition is "zero-to-hero". If your character can only cast Sleep once per day and will lose a fight to a housecat, you probably don't translate...

Re: A Dungeoneering Fan, but a Total Gurps Newbie

I can't seem to do this without making players feel micromanaged. Which fault I suspect is in me, not them. I get very impatient with people who are taking a long time to make what seem like obvious...

Re: A Dungeoneering Fan, but a Total Gurps Newbie

"Civilian victim of mass shooting" is an unusual player character concept, IME.

Re: [Spells] Why is Command a blocking spell, and how does it work?

Well if the intent is the lose their turn, and nothing actually happens, then the command itself doesn't matter.

The spell description doesn't really make this clear at all, IMO.

Re: Negative Hit Point effects

Usually what happens is that people are conditioned to think they have to stop, and so do.

Using SIMTAC rounds, you are normally instructed to go down and stay down when hit. When I did Stimulus...

Re: Innate Attack: Projectile and Handedness

Handedness penalties normally apply to attack rolls unless specifically exempted. Situations where you would even want to cast a missile into your off hand are pretty rare, too.

Re: The Future of the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game?

I meant that it has a refreshing lack of mail bikinis, butt-floss, and boob plate.

Re: Creating fireball from campfire

If that's just how magic works in the setting then it's not worth any points.

Although it probably actually is a magic system fueled by Nicolas Cage's personal debt...
