Re: Drama, dice-rolls and Plot

I am genuinely interested in what you consider the "proper" use of an RPG. I'm not saying anything about badwrongfun, but you seem to think there is, effectively, one correct way to play and would...

Drama, dice-rolls and Plot

As I’ve said before, I’m an acolyte of John Wick. Not the movie, the game designer.

I don’t think that dice rolls create drama. It can happen, but, more often than not, it doesn’t. You should...

Re: Killing PCs

Again, sometimes it's hard to get where you're coming from, Anthony. I completely agree with this. However, it seems that you think a plot must be fully detailed, but it doesn't have to be. It's...

Re: Killing PCs

Which is irrelevant. I said you could put a level in there if you wanted to ("If you feel that it needs a skill level, then go for it"). And you insisted that meant I was stating the character up...

Re: Killing PCs

See the "Lord British Postulate" for better understanding.

Being cheeky doesn't lend any credence to your point. It just comes across as struggling to make your point valid. Putting "plays...

Re: Killing PCs

Yes, I was simply providing additional context.

I never said it was better. I just said it wasn't necessary. Having stats isn't better than not having them, nor is it any worse. It's a...

Re: Killing PCs

The way you depict it, yes, that's a bad way of doing it. But, that's not how many of us do it.

But the GM should always have a story they're telling as well. So should each of the players. And...

Re: Killing PCs

Again, this is only an issue if you're generally an inconsistent person and don't take good notes. But, the only matter that "invested time" becomes relevant is if they're making a roll, otherwise,...

Re: Killing PCs

Comprehensive notes are better than stats for this.

If they spend dedicated effort, that really doesn't rely on stats, that's much more narrative. If they're going to invest time and effort,...

Re: Killing PCs

Plot devices in my games tend not to have sheets or stats.

The actual stats for Asmodeus, the Cosmic Will of the Macroverse, Eessa, Mella, Mr. Smith, the Source, et al. simply don't matter. ...

Re: Killing PCs

Why?

If the GM and Player have agreed that the character should die, and they set up the scenario to help drive the story and give the character a meaningful death, then why shouldn't you plan a...

Re: Killing PCs

I had to read what you wrote like a dozen times to figure out what you're trying to say. And, I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure I got it now.

You're trying to break everything down into G/N/S...

Re: Killing PCs

I'm an acolyte of John Wick, so I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't kill a PC unless it moves the story forward. And then, only with the player's permission. But, players also shouldn't try to...

I second this.

Get us some photos, Kromm. We'll photoshop the rest.

Re: I think GURPS needs a logo

The top should be a "1," and it should just be a single eye.

The entire die should be a color. I'd almost say the fora orange/yellow, but I really hate this color.

For Douglas' idea, the 3d6...

Re: Kicking in High Heels

Sorry for assisting in the Necromancy, but this does exist in Power-Ups 2. It's "High-Heeled Hurt," and is on page 7.

Re: How lethal is a master?

Great FSM, 200 pts into DX in a 150 pt game . . . what do they do? I mean . . . depending on disads, they likely have no points left over for anything else. That's unusual to the point that, as GM,...

Re: How lethal is a master?

No, it's not. There is no tangible benefit. The 40 points it took to get there is plenty. No one is forbidden from sinking 40 points into a skill, unless the GM says "no." Then, they would be...

Re: How lethal is a master?

Then this is a discussion that you, as the GM of the game, should have with the player, and require them to buy a Reputation.

However, I disagree with this view.

Again, this is your opinion,...

Re: How lethal is a master?

Range penalties make these nowhere near as useful as a Broadsword-24. At 20 yds, he's at an 18. While many of my supers take "Long-Range" on their attacks to remove range penalties out to 200 yds....

Our Teen Supers game is also 250 points. Their DR cap is 15, and their damage cap is 5d, but they've also got other types of powers. The couple who use melee can...

Re: How lethal is a master?

However, none of our games are fantasy. He'd be taking injury from ranged attacks from the get-go. He'll be going berserk very early on and doing nothing useful against fliers and the ranged...

Re: How lethal is a master?

Well, in the Teen Supers game, if he got the drop on any of the teens before they activated their powers, he'd probably kill them.

However, if they used their powers, it wouldn't even be a fight....

Re: Memorable Quotes.

So, I'm in TTS, prepping for our Sunday Game. I've got the interior of a building they're approaching mapped out with assets and am trying to build walls around it so I can obscure it from my...
