Re: brainstorming noncombat encounters for my mega dungeon

A very large Dwarven mining crew. Friendly and professional, they're here to punch a nice big tunnel through the middle of the dungeon.

But, as you know, those dwarven toilets empty themselves,...

Re: Map Software

Agreed. I'm currently trying to correlate Koppen climate categorie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classification)s with a setting map of mine. Tis a fun exercise, but it's a lot...

Re: At the Gates of Samaria (an exercise in creative character writing)

It would help to be useful, and perceived as being non threatening. Someone with appropriate Engineering skills, or Medical and/or Surgery related skills etc. OK, that's the bait. To sweeten it,...

Re: If you ran a campaign in your vicinity, what would it be?

My mate Green Neck (http://forums.sjgames.com/member.php?u=39794) did similar, but he made it either an Undead (pre the TV series) or Cthulhuesque game. Personally, I'd go with a faux Dies The Fire...

Re: Funding semi-realistic monster hunters

Do they play poker, and if so, do they place bids using kittens (https://youtu.be/74TxFjF15JY?t=4m4s) as opposed to money?

Re: Funding semi-realistic monster hunters

This is just a table top role playing game. I'm just suggesting some colour for the OP. It's his game; he knows his players, their social backgrounds, and what they are up for in a RPG setting.

Re: Funding semi-realistic monster hunters

Are we talking about a challenging setting for a TTRPG, or demonstrating the grim and nasty business of living at the bottom end of the social pecking order? Personally, I'm just trying to suggest a...

Re: Funding semi-realistic monster hunters

Omar Little (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_Little) seemed to cope with that just fine. But then, he did do his "Robin Hood" / "Fish in the sea (http://izquotes.com/quote/119227)" trick rather...

Re: Funding semi-realistic monster hunters

The metaphoric vs the literal blood sucker. Not meaning to metagame (OK, maybe a little bit) but having a potential foe for a group, perform some form of constructive social role, IMHO gives an...

TL4 Gunpowder weapon stats

Where should I look for stats for TL4 matchlock muskets, wheel lock pistols, and cannon? High Tech starts at TL5, and IIRC LT finishes at TL3. Books, Pyramids?

Farming and prehistory

Just found this great article (http://io9.com/how-farming-almost-destroyed-human-civilization-1659734601) (for those of us that are not the polymath which is Bill) on prehistory humanity and the...

Re: #RPGaday Topic 2: First RPG GMed

Ran a game of Space Opera, somewhere around 1981. Unfortunately I got nervous drank a bit too much beer, and then overcompensated during the game, giving the PCs a large high tech alien spaceship....

Re: Not Quite the Clacks

Are we taking cows with guns, or chickens with choppers?

Also, you can eat macropods, so dead tree kangaroo would be rather tasty....

Re: Brainstorming a potential setting/scenario: The Quiet Morning

Re: Apprentices at TL4

Curmudgeon, ta muchly. Nice specificity in there; I'll need to take some notes.

And nice pointer on low treason. Nicely rescued from the rabbit hole.

Was bouncing ideas of a mate on modelling the apprentice relationship for an upcoming one-off, and just thought I'd check in with the collective consciousness.
