Re: World Building - Very Shallow Sea?

A very old geologically inactive world may eventually become one with a near global shallow sea. Erosion evens out terrains.
Though six feet is really shallow and a narrow range to maintain over...

Re: Real-Life Weirdness

What I find creepiest is that they decided thieves would be scared off by nursery rhymes.
Monsters held at bay by creepy shaking voices singing children's songs sounds mood inducing.

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

That would make schools chaotic, and dating very dangerous in every conceivable manner.

Re: Kindly Necromancers

There are loads of fiction where organ donors haunt or linger around recipients.
The first example that popped into my head was:

Where Bob...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

I feel your post is especially appropriate seeing as how you have humanity first going to the moon, THEN inventing flying machines. ;)

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

Suddenly realizing that we can go faster than cheetahs with machines caught the public's imagination. MUST GO FASTER! is a very human urge.

Re: Kindly Necromancers

Like begats like. Corpses are easier to animate, because they resemble living people. "What animates" is trying to define magic/religion, so could be literally anything you want. It doesn't have to...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

That sounds like an episode of Doctor Who where time "breaks". It's only a bit part before things get fixed. But it has weird anachronisms like Winston Churchill and futuristic features along with...

Re: Kindly Necromancers

A majority of people from real world cultures that values such things, sure. But we're already dealing with impossible settings, so what's one more unlikely cultural artifact like not caring much...

Re: Lowered ear pain threshold, and high light sensitivity

Wouldn't that mean the gadget is doing more than just compensating for over sensitivity? If sunglasses or what have you allows normal vision, then it's unlikely to dull very bright flashes too,...

Re: Kindly Necromancers

That requires perfect knowledge by everyone involved. Most people may believe souls are harmed even if they aren't according to word of GM, or simply find the idea of using corpses as objects...

Re: Lowered ear pain threshold, and high light sensitivity

Common and cheap mitigating equipment is dealt with rather differently by different GMs and groups, I believe. It's similar to the issue of Innate Attacks and cheap weapons like knives and guns.

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

How would post-time wars differ from basic anachronistic, superscience, or myth parallels?
Not a criticism as I love the idea, but can't imagine how one could make the difference clear from the...

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

Right up there with the exceptionally weird but very well written fan-fiction crossing Stargate: SG1 and My Little Pony.

Re: Kindly Necromancers

While probably hard for most players to imagine, a society could exist that doesn't put any importance on corpses. They may consider bodies merely shells for the spirit and therefore no more...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Extra Sleep, Insomniac and Light Sleeper

Deep Sleeper is supposed to be a perk not disadvantage.
Even if it were, Combat Reflexes completely negates the drawbacks.

Re: Real-Life Weirdness

The articles linked don't prove anything. They just suggest maybe the Russians have a completely new brain damage causing ray gun able to operate at extreme ranges without showing any actual proof. ...

Re: Empathy with low IQ

If my brother says he's 100% certain, then he is without fail, wrong. He kept doing it for a couple of years even after I called him on it. Eventually he stopped, but for a while he was like a...

Re: Real-Life Weirdness

Poison, hysteria, and loads of other things should be considered before completely novel never proved concepts like brain damage ray guns.
But it would certainly work for a conspiracy game.

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

That sounds like how if modern westerners see bad things happen to those behaving badly, they will blame "karma", pretty much this enforced luck.

This could lead to some very dark aspects though. ...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

Victorian era humans were even more anthropocentric and racist than us now. Even if they're forehead bump aliens, Earthlings would treat them as completely inhuman, I think.
Shock in seeing far...
