Re: Minor magics for wizards

Response to one of Warhorse's earlier posts. Seems to have lagged in the posting. Sorry for the confusion!

Re: Modern Monster Hunting Guns [XM500, MICOR Leader 50, etc.]

What about good 'ol .303 Mark VII (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.303_British#Mark_VII) full of wood pulp? :)

Re: Minor magics for wizards

It seems like you could buy a batch of these with the Dabbler(Cantrips) perk for anyone with magery rather than making it 1 pt for IQ-4 Cantrips. I would also limit the number of total Cantrips by...

Re: Accumulators: A concept for GURPS Spaceships

Apparently the replicators in Star Trek fed off a stock of generic matter rather than trying to create matter from energy from scratch. The generic matter was reconstructed by the replicator which...

Re: Accumulators: A concept for GURPS Spaceships

Getting back to Accumulators, it seems the only pseudo-realistic tech that makes sense is superconducting loops. Anything else requires a fair bit of handwaving to explain the energy density and...

Re: Accumulators: A concept for GURPS Spaceships

I'm an engineer, but I hung out with the technicians running the labs a lot when I did my undergrad degree. I learned an awful lot of practical skills from them that weren't taught in the classroom.

Re: Accumulators: A concept for GURPS Spaceships

It's actually the other way around. The metals/salts in the battery have an inherent voltage (EMF) differential dependent on the chemistry of the combination of salt/ions/metals/acids. The current...

Re: Managing combat rounds...

Tokens and sides of dice make good 'X' turns into 'Y' long action counters. In the past when a PC needed to do a long action we'd grab a D12 or whatever and use that as the countdown timer. Every...

Re: Accumulators: A concept for GURPS Spaceships

I think they would have to be background specific. If you are running a space opera game go ahead and create an Accumulator system that stores X power points where X is whatever doesn't break your...

Re: Shikaku-Mon and TL-10 spytech

It would probably take them a while to even figure out what they were seeing without the necessary Weird Science/Parachronics fundamentals. Science works in fads (hot theory of the decade) so the...

Re: 3d Printing

Good 3D printing results requires some work post printing. You will probably want to sand down the model a bit when it comes out of the printer to smooth out any roughness etc, and then some people...

Re: A computer game that would be perfect for an OGRE mod.

The problem is if it isn't turn-based then you need a physics engine to handle projectiles flying around etc. for real-time maneuver and firing. Turn-based abstracts all that into a single 'die roll'...

Re: Shields, explosions, area effects, cones and large area attacks

Going for the Rule of Cool and Fun Psudo-Realism here:
You could do a forward dive (more like just fall forward onto your stomach) while bracing the shield over your head. The character would end up...

Re: Unusual Spaceship Ideas?

Salvage tug with an oversize hyperdrive. It can latch onto a large piece of wreckage and then warp/jump out with it. I had one in a sci-fi game I ran a while back. The PCs ended up using it along...

Re: Removing the steam from Ogres

My money is on this guy:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendelstein_7-X
It twists the plasma to increase containment efficiency. It's like a Möbius strip.

Re: [MA] Historical Style: Bolognese Sidesword

Maybe the 'Clinch' perk due to its secondary nature to the style?

Re: Removing the steam from Ogres

Is there much post-war lore? I remember the vignette for the Ninja being placed after the war. It could be a good setting for a GURPS AtE game with a remaining Ogre war relic being something the PCs...

Re: Removing the steam from Ogres

This reminds me of the 'Nuclear Lightbulb' drive from GURPS Spaceships. It uses the photons to heat reaction mass. :)

Re: The Effects of Wearing a Target

IQ-based Guns roll at a penalty to figure out not to aim for the obvious target?

Re: The Effects of Wearing a Target

I ran a game for a character that painted a standard police target on his bullet proof vest. When he faced off against law-enforcement mooks I'd make them have to make an IQ roll at a penalty to...

Re: How to fight mages as a TL 7 character?

Poison gas. Unless they're an air mage with purify air they won't know what to do about it.

Re: Playing the Ogre: Teaching the Computer

You could actually use such AI recipes to give Ogres unique personalities. Each AI strategy could be named after a specific Ogre that uses it in a scenario.

Re: GURB- The Generic Unoriginal Roleplaying Blog

Very nice! It's good to see some variety in the Gauss weapon types, particularly Gauss weapons firing full caliber bullets instead of the small darts shown in UT.
