Re: LEGO Car Wars

Seen on a Facebook group. This should look familiar. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/318623315005784/permalink/760266350841476/)

I don't know if you need to be a member of the group to view it...

Some things to consider...

In general, what can 1 ST worth of magic achieve? (How much damage, how much armor protection, how much summoned creature time, etc.)

How do you limit how much ST a...

Re: Car Wars Beginner Here! (Classic Edition)

Also be aware that if you put rockets in a turret, once you've shot them they're gone and you've got an empty turret. The way around that is with a rocket magazine, which takes up space internally...

Re: The Obligatory “How Did You Get Started in TFT” Thread

One of my good friends, around 1986 or so IIRC. He was also the one who got me into Car Wars and Champions. We played arena fights a lot; even played it LARP-style a few times.

TFT is two different games that happen to share a system

I keep harping on this, so I've made a separate thread for visibility.

In another thread...

Which game? I've said in a number of different threads (and gotten agreement from Steve...

Re: Is there a 'power' skill?

The Power skill in Hero is more of a category -- it's more like Hobby or Profession than it is like Ritual Magic or Thaumatology. It's also effectively Hero's custom skill.

At any rate, thank...

Re: Is there a 'power' skill?

Oh, sure, in HERO a power with Requires A Roll can use a Power Skill, named however the GM or player want: Magic, Brick Tricks, Speedster Tricks, Psionics, etc. It could be more focused, which is...

Re: Is there a 'power' skill?

Sure, I get that. But there isn't anything in the Basic Set that matches what I'm looking for, and I was wondering what supplement(s) might have a closer fit. It looks like Powers is next on my...

Re: Is there a 'power' skill?

I'm aware of the Power Talent. It's not quite what I'm looking for, but is very useful.

I guess Powers will be my next purchase.

Sure, the GURPS version of a HERO Variable Power Pool...

Is there a 'power' skill?

Recently coming back to GURPS from a long time away.

HERO has its Power Skill, which has a number of uses: activating a power that has the Requires A Skill Roll limitation, changing around...

Re: Things for Magery to do outside of spells

You could play around with Magery itself. Magery 0 is very similar to an advantage-built Detect Magic (Vague, -50%) for 5 points. You could allow any magic-detecting advantage to stand in for...

Re: Car Wars Beginner Here! (Classic Edition)

I never picked up Mini Car Wars, but I always assumed that it was the same rules as the Jump Start section. Can someone confirm or deny that?

Re: Metric? Keep or change?

I disagree that it's unfamiliar to most TFT players.

According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_metric_system), the metric system was first proposed in 1670, and first...

Re: Metric? Keep or change?

Aha. 47 is the only one in which Anthony suggested any kind of made up measurement: Encumbrance Units. I don't recall off the top of my head what TFT the battle game used for encumbrance, nor what...

Re: Metric? Keep or change?

TFT, the non-RPG battle game, used unspecified hexes as a measure of distance, and unspecified turns as a measure of time.

TFT-ITL, the RPG, was originally metric. You're still here, so I...

Hey, you went there first. I'll quote your post that I was responding to, in its entirety, with the relevant bits bolded. That was your wording.

Re: Metric? Keep or change?

Are American gamers so fragile that they'll reject a game that uses meters and kilograms?

Around 1985-1990, you could go to a convention, and there'd be as many Champions and Hero games as *D&D...

Re: Metric? Keep or change?

Are most TFT players American?

Are we expecting no one outside of the US to play TFT?

Re: Metric? Keep or change?

Officially, US measures have been defined in terms of metric for a long time now (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendenhall_Order). An inch is exactly 2.54 cm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inch).
