Re: [Ultra-Tech] What does the TL10 battlefield look like

Actually I am. My attempts to reverse engineer a 100mm produced an _exact_ match when I used rules from Ve2 for using conventional missiles in space rather than building them as miniature vehicles.

Re: [Ultra-Tech] What does the TL10 battlefield look like

Another thing not directly mentioned yet is how effective _small_ weapons are. The on;ly things in UT at TL10 that can resist the TL10 25mm HEAT are the 30 ton tanks. This might actually be the...

Re: How do time-travelers calculate the date?

If I were doing this that satelite constellation would be doing survellance/recording history as well as acting as a beacon system for travellers. Periodic collection of the data would be necessary...

Re: Are TL4 'Rocket-Pack's Possible?

I don't suppose "Wan Hu" translates as "Buster". :)

The Mythbuster's experience with recreating this one would tend to show that the trail and error process was too hard on crash test dummies...

Re: How does 5e D&D compare to the others?

With a Half-Orc Barbarian you get a bonus D12 with the Great-axe criticals. Then at 2nd level you get Reckless attack and can attack with advanatage every round (so can your enemies but what do you...

Re: How do time-travelers calculate the date?

I was mostly being conservative about the natives picking up the satelite signals. No radio means no signal interception. Historically though it wasn't until the late 30s that radio signals from...

Re: Are TL4 'Rocket-Pack's Possible?

The Wright's advantage wasn't in overwhelming genius though intuiting that they needed to invent the wind tunnel first was very sharp. The advantage was focussed in the area of controlability. The...

Re: Are TL4 'Rocket-Pack's Possible?

There's an actual rocket pack in Steam-tech. Wear asbestos trousers and have an Extra Life handy.

Re: Are TL4 'Rocket-Pack's Possible?

Any TL solid fuel rockets burn at maximum power until they've burned out. A rocket motor you can shut off or regulate the thrust on is a liguid fuel or hybrid pretty much by definition.

Re: How does 5e D&D compare to the others?

In my experience the bit where you can recover half your Hit Dice after a short rest is more commonly used.

Both actually boil down to "The party recovers relatively quickly when the DM permits"....

Re: How do time-travelers calculate the date?

With only a little thought given to how reflective your satelite is i.e. avoiding the "Iridium flare" you can put satelites into Earth orbit until at least 1900.

Re: [Space] How Big Can Gas Giant Moons Get?

Yes, "as big as Titan and probably larger" is not exact.

A gas giant far enough in to promote Earth-like temp is a so-so thing. The many "Hot Jupiters" we've discovered may be a transient early...

Re: How does 5e D&D compare to the others?

I have played every edition of D&D but 4th and can say that 5e is a "little" game in comparison to what has gone before. This helps to make it easier to run but limits detail.

It's actually as if...

Re: Fencing Game Preferences

However, 1710 is also a period when you have lots of reliable flintlocks and ahve had for 80 years or more. If you went 100 years earlier you'd ahve aperiod where Louis XIII had one flintlock pistol...

Re: Survival (Urban).

Finding smugglers and doing business with them would not have to give you any Smuggling Skill. The social end is probably Streetwise. Smuggling itself is about hiding and moving the goods.

Re: How do time-travelers calculate the date?

I am bewildered. The sidereal chronolog has a long paragraph on p.24. I'd have thought "central processor and database" "3 8 inch opticak telescopes and 40 square yards of radio sensitive fabric" was...

If you wonder exactly what the equipment package for doing the "read the sky as a calendar" thing is see "sidereal chronolog" in the equipemnt section for Infinite Worlds.

Oh, and the "ask a...

Re: Skills and Techniques are too expensive

.....and after that come the revisions. I can remember when Unaging cost 60 pts and Longevity 40. Obviously those have been rediced in cost a couple of times.

Re: Would you like a Melee Fighting Talent?

20 pts is 10 weapon skills at DX (unless they are Knife, Guns or Beam Weapons which are Easy) and punching at DX requires no expenditure of pts at all.

Re: Would you like a Melee Fighting Talent?

I could probably spend 1 pt each on 5 different Skills and raise all the Defaults that might be in question by 4 pts each. I wouldn't take any of the proposed versions.

Maybe if someone wanted to...

Re: GURPS Steampunk 2: Steam and Shellfire

Indirect fire was knwon before TL6 but was mostly used for going over castle walls. "Real" TL6 indirect fire moslty goes over the horizon and earlier TL artillery won't do that. Huigh angle fire...

Re: How would you do this anime trope?

Maybe not. It's kind of missed Dive for Cover (B.377). This is specifically mentioned as a means of "dodging" explosions and is a very important option for modern combat.

The first step is getting...
