Re: New Reality Seeds

A penny per email isn't going to change people's email habits that much. What it will do is reduce the use of spam emails as marketing. That would be good for the Internet. The 'net will become a...

Re: What TL is the original Star Trek?

One of the Star Trek books I had (I thought it was the Starfleet TNG Technical Manual by Okuda) claimed that the way warp drive (or at least transwarp/ultrawarp) worked was by tricking reality.

Re: TL 10 Humans

There are several dangers in society when there are people who live hundreds of years even if the society somehow can support the extra people who aren't dying and aren't reliant on the society for...

Re: After the End, except it never stopped ending...

In the same vein but not exactly what you're looking for - Phillip K Dick had a story called "The Defenders" that was about WWX between the Yellow Hordes and the West (in the radio version I heard,...

Re: TL4 vs. TL7 melee weapons

Though presumably this is TL 8 and not 7, there is a TV show called "Forged In Fire" where four smiths compete to make a useable knife of considerable size in three hours. It looks like they mostly...

Re: The Problem With Magic

This is not the game's fault, the system's fault, or even the setting's fault. This is the GM's fault for not only losing control of their game but actively allowing the players to hose it.

A GM...

Re: So...What Next?

Licensing D&D (allowing an OGL) created a lot of massive failures and costs a lot of people money. The only lasting success was Pathfinder.

I would guess SJG probably doesn't want the...

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

Why do the Europeans not have a knowledge of shamanism? Europe has a folk tradition of spirit magic as well as Ceremonial magic having to do with spirits. Even if you ignore that, the Europeans could...

Re: combat without actual defense rolls?

Is there something your group as a whole prefers about GURPS if the combat system isn't appealing? I suppose I could see that the modular character creation system might allow for a lot of options...

Gurps $, 2018

It was pointed out to me recently that a single "normal" donut (one without special toppings or premium fillings) at a large American chain such as Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme costs around one...

Re: Claim To Equipment

Why should a Mechwarrior always have access to a 'mech if theirs gets shot out from under them? The idea of the Dispossessed and salvage is (or was) an important part of the story. If the PCs don't...

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Disturbing Voice and Stuttering

Max Headroom's glitching shouldn't be worth -5 points, it's a -1 Quirk at worst. He's not difficult to understand nor is it off-putting. A stutter should be at least as bad as Derek Jacobi's in I,...

Re: D&D5e Characters-What has worked for you?

I can't see that high stats are all that important in 5th edition anyway, even at low levels. The game gives everyone considerable stat boosts anyway (most every race gets at +2 to a stat and then +1...

Re: Rate my "Big Bad Evils"

Because the OP asked that this sort of stuff be rated/discussed. This is the GURPS forum, where everything (even fantasy and sci-fi) is expected to be reasonable if not realistic. Elaborate...

Re: Catalog of the Weird Parallels

Seems unlikely. People on Mystic-7 who actually could do magic in the non-NA cultures wouldn't have been killed, they'd have been put to use by the authorities no matter what the culture was....

Re: RPG systems as handgun cartridges

I guess I would agree with the Savage Lands as /40 S&W - highly overrated and mostly beloved because of marketing.

As for 3.5 as .45 ACP - is the round totally broken and by adding on things to...

Re: D&D5e Characters-What has worked for you?

The only point buy I've ever seen used in a D&D setting is in 3rd/3.5ed organized play games when one was forved to use it. I've never known anyone who wasn't willing to take their chances rolling...

Re: Modular Talents

Well, since GM should ask players to make their characters with the GM, it should be quite easy to veto this immediately.

Re: D&D5e Characters-What has worked for you?

There's a reason for this - part of the design concepts were niche protection. Fighters are the best fighters, as opposed to 3.5 where everything EXCEPT fighters were good fighters.

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

To be fair, people play Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu, and (both RPGs and) wargames set in the Warhammer Universe (Fantasy and 40K). Those universes are very grim - the latter two specifically point out...

Re: D&D5e Characters-What has worked for you?

In 5th edition one can take a short rest (at least an hour) and roll a number of hit dice they shoose, up to their level. They also add their Con bonus to this roll (if this reminds you of rolling...
