Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

Good pseudoscience explanation for those one off monsters.
The Tremors tv show was going that way with just such a bacteriological proteus "thing" affecting local wildlife, before cancellation.

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Dependency

I think games that have lots of conjured food and water do it to simplify play without fully ignoring the issue.

But dependencies are intentionally bought by an individual, so should be difficult...

Re: GURPS News Observations

I vaguely remember it being the tongue in cheek term for what became Low Tech.

Re: Large variance of SMs together

You don't need to come up with logical reasons for disallowing alcohol if you don't want to.
Campaigns always have genre/theme/etc. rules completely aside from in setting realities. Like how...

Re: Large variance of SMs together

Yeast is everywhere and anything with sugar can be fermented into alcohol.
But I don't see lacking it as being game breaking for most players.

Re: Large variance of SMs together

Coins really could work seeing as how everything a giant could want or do would be of massive value and the reverse for tiny pixies.
A meal, a hat, an 8 hour work shift, etc.

Re: Large variance of SMs together

Even with cartoon light logic, you don't need them to weigh what realistic giants would. They'd need god-level strength to lift each other otherwise.

A human scaled up 10 times would have 1/10th...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

No, unless you're saying that lions, tigers, jaguars, and leopards are all the same species. They can produce fertile offspring.
Wolves, dogs, and coyotes can interbreed.
African wild cats,...

Re: Making dragons slightly tougher

Minor, to dragons at least, parasites or lair cleaners.
Dragon fleas may not be so minor to adventurers.

Some spiders "keep" frogs that eat dangers to spider young but aren't really dangerous to...

Re: How to give fatigue points more meaning?

Even when I'm nearly falling over from lack of sleep or fatigue, I can still carry nearly my normal weight. Nowhere near 50% loss of strength. So I wouldn't say avoiding such a recalculation is...

Re: Large variance of SMs together

+6 SM is larger than T rexes. Their every step will shake human buildings let alone pixie homes.
I suggest "cartoon logic". Only intentional use of size based abilities matter. Or if it matters...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

Our species is no where near as old as 500k. That's in the period of other hominids like Homo heidelbergensis, neanderthalensis, denisovan, etc. We're around 200-70k old.

Re: Large variance of SMs together

Fraggles sometimes tripped demolishing entire buildings without ever injuring a single doozer that I remember.
I think it could be a valid setting rule that accidental injuries due to size don't...

Re: High Wis Low Int character?

The most obvious character that fits in my opinion is Lassie. Super intelligent for a dog, but objectively rather base human level. It's her wisdom, perception, and perseverance aka willpower that...

Re: New Sci Fi Setting Seeds

It might make more "sense" if it's a religious belief. As in humans are reincarnated aliens. That would sidestep the biological impossibilities of being literal descendants.
It would be...

Re: Large variance of SMs together

That's a huge difference. It's like having a village set up for humans and mice. How do the larger creatures avoid stepping on the smaller ones? One tiny misstep and instant death.

Re: [Basic] Disadvantage of the Week: Delusions

I tend to think of Gurps Delusion as just a negative reaction disadvantage based on a locally unpopular belief.
Light atheism in a hyper-religious setting, or light religiousness in a hyper-atheist...

Re: [DF] Elves

Some species change genetically more rapidly than others even when taking generation length into consideration.
Elves could just be a magically enhanced version of that.

Re: How to give fatigue points more meaning?

And probably that many need more sleep. Most of my life I was a "long sleeper". Subsisting on just eight hours meant noticeable problems for me.

Re: [DF] Elves

With even low fantasy, genetics isn't the only thing that can cause "breed" differences.
Epigenetics could work. Fetal development could be heavily affected by maternal environment. It could also...

Re: One-Handed Spear Reach and Reversed Grip

WWI had the Spanish Flu killing loads. Obviously that pandemic was unrelated to war injuries/infections. Though combat probably helped beat down immune systems and spread it.
Though war also...

Making any part of a brain survive longer after decapitation that it otherwise would... My claim of literal nightmare fuel stands.

Dietary Quirks:

Hates red meat, even the odor, but isn't a vegetarian (I know...
