Re: Scientist in the Star Wars galaxy RPG build

In the Rim, there is a LOT of work relating to paleontology since most systems will be home to relatively new colonies. Or they are established worlds with newly discovered species (for the rest of...

Re: Share Your Game Master Panic Moments

I'm pretty immersive and serious with my RPG's so when I found myself the GM for a group of players who thought that "Dalorious & Associates" was the pinnacle of the art of RPG, I began to panic.

Re: Fantasy Economy

Actually it did historically! It was used as a counterfeit material for silver! . . . because way back when, it was worthless . . . (TOO hard to work with).

Oh the irony.

Re: Fantasy Economy

And then there's the problem that prices aren't going to be consistent historically.

The price of a bag of grain on a farm will be VERY low, but in the center of a city with a population of 2...

Re: Fantasy Economy

Historically Silver was VERY prevalent.

My ancestors (The Vikings) used silver coinage extensively and they dominated the early "Middle Ages" era.

Silver has also been a very common material...

Re: ogre vs. ogre questions.

My Son and I did a battle with the Designer's Edition with 200 AP is Armor (there's only 108 points WORTH of Armor in the box <hee hee hee>) and about 70 Infantry.

So yeah. WE had Ogres galore! ...

Optional Rule Idea: Reloading Missiles (Or making the trucks useful)

My son and I were working with this rule for reloading missiles, specifically for Ogres & Cruise Missile carriers.

Quite simply, any Command Post has an unlimited stock of missiles. These...

OGRE Designer Edition: I want more factions!

Okay I know its not historical, but I've got friends and having another 2-4 factions would be SO MUCH FUN!

With the current counters I have wrangled a 4 player game (with serious fudge factoring)...

Re: Old Earth

Sorry, but I'd just read a news story about how the dark side of the moon is highly charged by particles extending from the Earth's atmosphere as a result of the high powered electro-magnetic field...

Re: Age of Sail

Yes, I double checked my data and you would be correct. I meant Galley, which were MORE obsolete than Galleon's (which the History of Pirates book indicates were terribly uncomfortable to sail in. ...

Re: Old Earth

Just a couple of thoughts.

First, lets suppose, that an advanced civilization had NOT developed on Alt-Earth. This would be unappealing (hypothetically) for a space-faring race of bugs because...

Re: Age of Sail

Okay, so I don't have "stats" help to provide, but . . .

I just finished reading a book called "A History of Pirates" by Nigel Cawthorne which exhaustively covers the golden age of piracy...

Anyone play with the Named Item perk yet?

We're playing a high fantasy GURPS Greyhawk campaign and my lovely wife just read the rules from GURPS Fantasy (GIVE) and came across the Named Item perk.

So we've asked the GM for the Green light...

Re: 9d Fireball?

9d <shrug>

Yeah that's GIVE for you.

And it's still terribly balanced because it DOES take a lot of mana to fire one of those up.

For instance a 9d Explosive Fireball (Or explosive...

Re: How Can I Make These Guys A Challenge?

Think like a Kobold.

In short (ugh the pun) Kobolds are diminutive and weak. They will NOT engage in an up front fight unless they DO outnumber their opponents.

In noticed that your kobolds...

Re: Role of archers in low-tech parties?

Yeah, in modern parlance, an archer even a lowly TL non-munchkined version is still a "Blaster."

If you have magic, then you'll likely find the archer standing RIGHT NEXT to the mage.

And if...

Re: How would you design a TL7+ bunker?

As for defenses there are two philosophies out there.

So the prime question is: Who built this bunker and how smart were they?

A) if it's a traditional Soviet bunker, then it will employ...

Re: Converting Square Maps To Hex

On the off chance that I do this, my basic formula is to convert 3 yards (hexes) for every ~10 feet.

I don't worry too much after that.

As for my basic game board, I'm using a chessex mat w/...

We have a very typical campaign, and his character is of a similar...

Interstellar Travel is via stargates...

Re: A funny thing happened on the way to the Joust . . .

Okay, that's reasonable. I did overlook the "Enhanced Move" advantage which would double our mount's speed and reflect the GURPS horses closer to reality.

As for rounding, I'll have to take that...

A funny thing happened on the way to the Joust . . .

Okay, so the GM is getting ready for the big Jousting tourney and as the local rules lawyer/Co-GM, I decided to ready the most relevant stats that we would require or would most likely encounter.

Re: [Spaceships] Stealth/Sensors

I on the other hand, tend to think that the stealth starship is actually a viable and realistic (though) expensive concept.

I'll try to address a couple of the concerns and counterpoints...

Re: What is a realistic rapier

In sport fencing, feints ('fake' attacks) are very elegant and are usually immediately followed by an effective attack during the same thrust.

In this respect the GURPS feint doesn't seem to model...
