Re: Narrative/Motivation Advice for Introductory GURPS World-Hopper

Steal the villains plot from 'The One' (Jet Li, 2001) - "A rogue Multiverse agent goes on a manhunt for versions of himself, getting stronger with each kill."

The villain is hopping worlds to...

Re: GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Setting: Caverntown

How much of "Traits for Town" from Pyramid #3/58: Urban Fantasy is covered in this volume?

Re: No Release This Week

Except Quote from Kromm's Blog says:
(emphasis mine)

For most of this year the monthly GURPS release has been on the first Thursday of the Month.
With Pyramid being the second last Thursday of...

Re: Mailanka's Musings -- GURPS Content Post

Yes, thanks - that clears it up. (and I remember previously reading you post with the Pope Hulk!)

I suppose technically its the Divine Favor which is an alternate to the Alternate Form, being part...

Re: Mailanka's Musings -- GURPS Content Post

First let me say I'm really enjoying reading your Psi Wars blog posts, and I find a lot of interest and potential use for your 'Communion' using Divine Favor, Psi (Powers), Paths and the Avatars.

Re: Modifying Alternate Abilities

I muted something like this some time ago (before the official multiple AA's rule was published) - I was riff'ing off Divine Favor, with inspiration of (Cosmic) Modular Abilities.

Basically, the...

Re: Alternate Afflictions

Bard Songs from DF10 (which are bought as AAs) covers this.

So in your example, as soon as you switch from the DX Affliction to the Will Affliction, the effects of the DX Affliction end...

Re: How to make magic use friendlier?

You might find some mileage in reading mlangsdorf's College Ritual Book Magic (http://noschoolgrognard.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page.html) which uses the standard GURPS Spell List you've been looking...

Re: Empty Cargo Holds

Spaceships is an intentionally simplified system, and the dV multiplier table is a simplification of what the rocket equation would give for reduced mass from empty fuel tanks if you did the...

Re: Empty Cargo Holds

It certainly seems logical - treating the empty cargo hold as an empty fuel tank only for the purposes of the delta-v multiplier - since the delta-v multiplier is intended to represent the effect of...

Re: GURPS Vorkosigan - News

I was aware of the books, but hadn't read any of them when this was released - I bought it, loved it, and then bought and read all the books at about 1 a week. - It is exactly my kind of science...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

D&D has had psi for some time I believe, its a part of the grand genre mash up. It isn't for me, that's my tastes, but I have no problem if others like it. (My point was that 'silly' pointy hat psis...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

DF already uses the civilisation/wilderness dichotomy for a Druids power, extending this adding a second axis for supernatural protection, or, create a new axis.

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

Psionics are a near enough a modern day concept, and have no good reason to be in a medieval based fantasy game, in my opinion. It's the only DF volume I don't own and have zero interest in.

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

If people think DF is 'silly' because of some flavour text, then I see no point in trying to have a rational discussion with them.
If I want to play a Dwarf Cleric, I'm taking the Dwarf racial...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

Fantasy does have a load of templates, but they're low point level, and moderately bare bones - much closer to gritty fantasy. The races are all over the place on points - which makes it trickier to...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

People keep tarring DF with the 'lots of silliness' brush, but I don't think its true.

Would you (or someone else) mind giving some specific references to what you consider the 'so much silliness'...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

As I said - GURPS Fantasy and GURPS Thaumatology are perfectly good books - but they are toolkits, and do not have a lot you can take straight out of the box and run a game with. Unlike DF which has...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

You could indeed. However, Monster Hunters is built on the basis of a TL8 'setting' and Gear - so it probably would make a decent starting point for a modern day urban fantasy. (Or for modern day...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

Why not. DF is a subset of GURPS rules and templates for playing Fantasy heroes. DF does not proscribe a specific setting, or religion or culture - those are provided by the GM and players.
Yes, it...

Re: Leveled Innocence advantage for DF idea

Its a nice simple idea, a sort of Supernatural protection for the mundane populace in a very unsafe world. A sufficiently powerful evil (or specially conjured/crafted creature) could overcome it to...

Re: [Sorcery] A generalized Detect spell

Psionic Powers has the Seekersense ability [p42-43] which uses different forms of Modular Ability with Limited, Trait, Detect, -50%. So that seems like a reasonable place to start.

Re: The 2015 w23 Digital Release and Speculation Thread

Phil also co-wrote and wrote the Castle Falkenstein books, for which SJG has a current licence (at least to sell those 2 books).
I'm not suggesting those books are the ones being updated, but they...

Re: [Basic] So The Hulk Gets Bitten By a Werewolf Or The Multiple Alternate Form Prob

I have a feeling that Kromm was once quoted as suggesting that if he were to redo Alternate Forms in some mythical future version, that he would consider using the Alternate Abilities mechanism.
