Re: Positive Middle Eastern Action Archetypes

Don't be afraid to step out of the world of fiction. Sure, movies mostly portray Middle Eastern characters in action movies in a negative light. That doesn't mean you have to. I mean, in all...

Re: First impressions on Fate Core

As for weapons, I really shouldn't be talking too much about it as I still haven't looked into it all that much. I just realized that it would be really easy to make all weapons essentially the same...

Re: First impressions on Fate Core

I personally prefer aspects over disadvantages as a way of modelling mental problems (or other disadvantages or whatever). Disadvantages are a one time bonus that then have to be remembered. ...

Re: First impressions on Fate Core

It's simple but the simplicity is good, very good. It lets me do a lot of things I've wanted to do, and to do them easily. I've thought for a long time about how to best make dreaming a big and...

Re: First impressions on Fate Core

Ran across the Kickstarter campaign around 18 or so hours short of when it ended. Spent 15 bucks. Very excited.

My take on it is that GURPS can detail things better, and has these excellent...

Re: French Elves and other such pastiches

If we really want to be sensitive about these issues, I think the best way to do that would be to not use fantasy races as they are usually portrayed. Orcs are similar to us but look and act a...

Re: French Elves and other such pastiches

Orcs playing gamelan music is brilliant. I've been a fan of gamelan for a long time. Perfect fit for a nice naunced and cultured kind of orc. I'd be curious to see what other bits of Indonesian...

Re: GURPS Templates for Delta Green

Oh well, it would have been nice. I'll be there studying to be a Montessori teacher.

Re: GURPS 2013 Wish List

I agree with Molokh here. These books seem like they would be of most general utility. Power Downs also sounds good.

As for what I would personally like? Hmmm.... More than anything I'd like to...

Re: GURPS Templates for Delta Green

I'll be in either Chennai or somewhere in Kerala (perhaps Thrissur) for roughly a year beginning in the summer. I'd be happy to travel for a game of GURPS if the invitation is open to others as well.

Re: Setting idea

I also could only imagine this while thinking of the jungle as being in a depression lower than the landmasses. That still doesn't seem like quite enough to stop the jungle from already having been...

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

It seems to me that the question, "What 5 years should we be looking at?" has basically three possible answers. One answer is "during the depression", another is "during the jazz age", the other is...

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

You were saying that the poll about whether or not we're dealing with alt history already closed, right? I'm not seeing any post in which you declared it closed or said anything about what won. I...

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

A: Our history! (or something very near to it)

D: Historical Supers!!! (been around for centuries) (I can put three votes into Historical Supers, am I right?)

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

I voted for classic Pulp, but I have to admit that David Johnston's "Steampunk Superheroes" sounds good. The main thing is just that there's more of a clear and clearly differentiated aesthetic in,...

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

C. Classic

The jazz age. Trans Atlantic (and hopefully also Trans Pacific) luxury ocean liners. Early Hollywood (leaning towards crime, mystery, and noir). A big gap between the rich and poor....

Re: Life in Space: City on an Asteroid

This could also be stated up with spaceships. Just refrain from giving it any kind of mobility. And that gives you a third book to play with (or third to tenth or so I suppose).

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

1. Pulp (1890-1939) ++++

2. The Cold War (1944-1964) +++

3. WWII (from the earliest moves in the Asian theatre to the Berlin Airlift) ++

4. The Sixties (1962-1975) +

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

My thoughts entirely. I especially like the bit about drawing connecting threads between the origins to make it feel cohesive.

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

The problem here is probably that we don't know how broad or how specific to get. Both of these origins I just wrote up are pretty specific examples of broad origins that have already been written...

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

Well, while we're brainstorming, here are a few ideas:

Granted by Transdimensional Aliens. I prefer my aliens to be from somewhere not quite as simple as just another planet. They walk the...

Re: Vote up a SUPERS! setting.

(H), Pulp. Glamorous jazz age extravagance and international escapades. I'm thinking of a cruise ship or something like that.

(E) Early Modern. Clock punk, sailing ships, distant lands.

(J)...
