How do I "GURPS" this out?? (Herllo KROMM??)

Hi everyone. I got hit by a car today. REALLY...hurts like hell. Here's the thing - Driver ran the red light. I was walking the crosswalk - right of way . (and I remembered "KROMM" also doesn't drive...)

Here's the Question / GURPS angle: The paramedics said that what "protected" me from not having worse injuries was my leather jacket. its basically a "biker" style leather jacket ..looks like $300 - but I got it on sale for 20.00 american at BIG Lots.

..Anyway i was "awake' all the way through being knocked and flipped by the car. I have bruise ...bruise on my chest wall extra 'fluid' in left knee. And aches all over.
What does that "equate" to in GURPS 4/e damage??

What would be my "Health" stats or strength?? I mean it turns out i'm more "durable" than I thought... Car was going 7-10 mph ... through a red light...

I can still "walk"...am achy - am not anxious to "sue"...but Likely can still work at the Game Store Friday. (yeah I'm kinda in the "industry" sort of...)

Also what kind of "attack" did the Driver and "car" do?? She was a 16yr old...wasn't looking at the Traffic lights??

Her car was a year 2000 Plymouth Neon.

One of my gamers met me at the Hospital to drive me home /pick me up - and I think of the kind of stuff - weird huh?? Also If anyone has read my threads on the TRAVELLER section - she is the player whose character wants to marry the Zhodani. Irony /weird thing is my bruised parts match up to where her NPC/fiancee has been "damaged".

Anyway..just wondered how GURP-able the aboive situation was as far as Health points, damage & such.

..Oh and tonight was supposed to be our usual game session....

Does she own a Neon?

I'd say you better not kill off her love interest :)

The reason why you were protected by the leather jacket is because it absorbs so much on impact. That's why bikers wear them.

It only gives DR 1 or 2, I believe.

As for the damage, not much. I mean, I had a friend who was hit at 25mph, and he only suffered superficial damage from the glass of the windshield. I'd say all in all, you took maybe 2-3 points of blunt trauma damage.

Another (and perhaps more important) reason is that leather is very resistant to abrasion. Road rash at highway speeds can seriously cramp your style. Leather can protect you against that, but denim can't.

Let's call it a DR 2 jacket - as I recall those things are pretty sturdy.

It would seem to be mostly Crushing damage to the Body (but also some to the leg), and that damage wasn't enough to force a counsciousness roll - or that you made the one that was generated.

Well, what we can tell is that the car did 4-5 y/s. With HP for such a Vehicle at around 54, it did (4 or 5 * 54)/100 dice of damage, that is 2d to 2d+2 or such. The roll could of course have been low, but let's say an average of 8 points of damage, -2 for your jacket, down to 6. HP 12 would be required to not generate a stun/unconsciousness roll/major wound. That would indicate ST 12 (or lower with extra hit points)

But all in all it seems that the situation is perfectly explainable in game terms even at average stats, given the right and not too unlikely rolls (low damage + make Stun roll)

No major wounds or cripplings.

No attack was made as such - it was a (critically?) failed Driving roll by a low skill driver - which was interpreted as a hit on a pedestrian. What resulted was a Collision.

Or it may be your Unluckiness kicking in.

Ow! And wow, you are truly a gamer, coming off that incident with questions about how it'd play in game. I think a lot of us would do the same.

Now, if you spent your fully-aware flight through the air mulling over the knockback points you just received... that might be taking the gamer thing a wee too far. : )

Quite a tale! May your HT rolls succeed and your recovery be quick.

Naw - I'm not that extreme...the "Gamer" thoughts didn't go through my head till I was at the Hospital examining room ...and it was one of my players waiting for me to change back into my clothes to give me a lift home.
Thats when I realized my injured areas matched those of an ally nPC in the game - that I've recently had to "Role-play".....The 16 yr old ...no connection to game.
So yeah the gamer thoughts entered my head much later in the day ....only thoughts at moment of "Hit"..were along the lines of : "Oh (epletive!!)!! I'm going to die...!!" and ..aversion of "wait I'm not dead???" when I was on back after the "flip/bump" in md -air.

Hey guys thanks for the comments ...I still hurt like "HEll" - but statting it out Gurps style makes it not feel so bad...kind of makes up for having to 'cancel" our normal session lasat night.

So what was the Physician skill of the doctor? =^_~=

You know, if you can find the approximate ST value for that Plymouth Neon then you can plug in the collision formula in the 4e Campaigns book to figure out approximately what dice fate rolled on you for damage (and consequently what you did to the car).

Movement in hexes times 2 roughly equates to speed in MPH, so the car's move was approximately 14-20 hexes at the time. What's your strength? Average human of 10? Oh yeah, we can figure this out...

Out of curiosity, (and cause I love my denim coat,) why not?
