Geomorphing Playmats
For those interested, here is the current "matchability" of the playmats. Some edges match perfectly, some require some minor overlays, some edges don't match at all. If a map is in parentheses, e.g. (M5), that means you will need a few overlays for it to completely match. If a map is not listed after the edge label, that implies the overlays required were beyond the "easy" level to match edges.
Map Edge M1 North: (M1), M4 M1 East: M5, M6 M1 South: (M1), M3, (M4), (M5), M7 M1 West: M5, M6 M3 North: M1, (M5), (M6), (M7) M3 East: M4 M3 South: M6 M3 West: M4 M4 North: (M1), (M4), M5, M6, (M7) M4 East: M3, M7 M4 South: M1, (M3), (M4), (M5), (M7) M4 West: M3, M7 M5 North: (M1), (M4), (M5), (M6), M7 M5 East: M1 M5 South: (M3), M4, (M5), (M7) M5 West: M1 M6 North: M3 M6 East: M1 M6 South: (M1), (M3), M4, (M5), (M7) M6 West: M1 M7 North: M1, (M5), (M4), (M6), (M7) M7 East: M4 M7 South: (M3), M5, (M7) M7 West: M4 I will be using this to guide future maps, with a goal of expanding the matching options for those that don't have all the maps. Some edges (M3 South and M6 North) are fairly unique and less likely to be reused, but by no means forgotten! Plus, I may still add a new map edge or two into the mix . . . D. |
Re: Geomorphing Playmats
Depending on your definition of "some minor overlays," they all match.
Gets out overlays, cracks knuckles, and sets to work ;) |
Re: Geomorphing Playmats
I was going for "easy" . . . !
Here are some possible mega-mat map layouts: 3 - 4 - 7 6 - 1 - 5 4 - 3 - 4 7 - 4 - 3 - 4 5 - 1 - 6 - 1 4 - 7 - 4 - 3 1 - 5 - 1 - 6 As can be seen, maps 1 and 4 are currently the "glue" to hold other maps together. I will be trying to expand that function to future maps. D. |
Re: Geomorphing Playmats
I've been getting two of each map. For running convention games where table space is at a premium, I can run (4) 1-map 2-player games at once; running them in pairs of identical scenarios helps speed set-up and player instructions.
And then I have lots of choices for the mega-map layouts when space allows! (It also helps that I haven't invested in the cardboard side of the game and can afford to dedicated the Ogre budget to neoprene...) |

Re: Geomorphing Playmats
I assume that all matching edges are "opposite" ones on the map listed? That is, for M? North, you're matching against M? South, etc. I don't have any time to do it now (prepping for tomorrow's scheduled Combine invasion of the Low Countries, er, I mean trip to the Netherlands! :P), but I wonder if any of the non-opposite sides match well-enough to be listed as well.
Also, a list of the actual overlays needed (quantity and type, if not position) sounds like a useful spreadsheet. Heck, that could be done for all map/side combos, eventually. Yet something else to see if I ever have the time for... :) Awesome job Drew & co., I can't wait to get my latest playmats (which, of course, will arrive just after I depart. *sigh* :))! |
Re: Geomorphing Playmats
Drew, could you post images please of a straight overhead shot of the new mats like were shown for all the others on KS? Then I could put together some combined images showing the tiling combos which are much more graphic than just the listings.
